TIGERS V SEA EAGLES
Injuries/reports:
*Curtis Sironen left the field with a hamstring complaint
Talking points:
*James Tedesco reinforced what we already new, he’s a freak. Unfortunately for SuperCoach, the Tigers fullback looks like grabbing a NSW Origin spot.
*Popular cheapie Nathan Green (2) played limited minutes off the bench.
*Jordan Rankin (63) solidified his spot on the wing with an impressive showing.
*Potential cash cow Brenton Lawrence (50) saw decent minutes and could be a buy option in coming weeks.
Highlights:
*James Tedesco (140) was brilliant in recording 3 tries, 1 try-assist, 10 tackle breaks and 3 line breaks. Expect his score to grow with updates.
*Martin Taupau (112) was the shining light in a disappointing Manly side, claiming a try and 10 tackle breaks against his old club.
*Kevin Naiqama (101) cracked triple figures in scoring a try and setting up a further 2.
Lowlights:
*Josh Aloiai (23) delivered a subpar score in a Tigers side that dominated through the backline.
*Daly Cherry-Evans (28) couldn’t deliver as a POD despite the Sea Eagles notching a respectable 4 tries.
Final teams:
Wests Tigers: 1. James Tedesco 2. David Nofoaluma 3. Tim Simona 4. Kevin Naiqama 5. Jordan Rankin 6. Mitchell Moses 007. Luke Brooks 8. Aaron Woods (capt.) 9. Dene Halatau 10. Tim Grant 11. Curtis Sironen 12. Chris Lawrence 13. Sauaso Sue Interchange: 14. Kyle Lovett 15. Josh Aloiai 16. Ava Seumanufagai 17. Manaia Cherrington
*The Tigers are 1-17 as named on Tuesday
Sea Eagles: 1. Tom Trbojevic 2. Jorge Taufua 3. Jamie Lyon (capt.) 4. Steve Matai 5. Brayden Williame 6. Dylan Walker 7. Daly Cherry-Evans 8. Josh Starling 9. Apisai Koroisau 10. Nate Myles 11. Lewis Brown 12. Martin Taupau 13. Jake Trbojevic Interchange: 14. Matt Parcell 15. Nathan Green 16. Brenton Lawrence 17. Siosia Vave
*The Sea Eagles are 1-17 as named on Tuesday
STORM V TITANS
Injuries/reports:
* Billy Slater (shoulder, TBA) — got pulled late from the team and will have surgery this week
Talking points:
* Cooper Cronk (22) had a second low score after a forgettable start to the season last Monday. Cronk is a wonderful player and will bounce back but his poor form again shows the dangers of picking non-goal kicking halves.
* Cameron Smith (83) affirmed why he’s one of the best hookers in SuperCoach. If you’re a disgruntled former James Segeyaro owner he is a must.
Highlights:
* Blake Green (101) and Will Chambers (108) both topped the century while Ryan James (62) top scored for the Titans.
* Greg Bird (60) had another strong week. Do you dare take the plunge?
* Nathan Davis (57) scored his first NRL try and looked very comfortable.
Lowlights:
* If you are one of the people who banked on a big return year from Slater you have a difficult trade decision on your hands.
* Agnatius Paasi (33) scored well considering he came off the bench but his cheapie potential looks to have dropped a little.
* The entire Dragons side. No player broke the half ton, with Mitch Rein (45) the top scorer.
* David Shillington (27), a surprise SuperCoach performer last season, crashed back to earth with a disappointing day.
Final teams: Storm: 20 Curtis Scott 2 Young Tonumaipea 3 Will Chambers 4 Cameron Munster 5 Marika Koroibete 6 Blake Green 7 Cooper Cronk 8 Jesse Bromwich 9 Cameron Smith (c) 10 Jordan McLean 11 Kevin Proctor 12 Tohu Harris 13 Dale Finucane. Interchange: 14 Kenny Bromwich 15 Tim Glasby 16 Felise Kaufusi 19 Ben Hampton
Billy Slater (shoulder) is out, replaced by young gun and potential SuperCoach cheapie Curtis Scott. The injury is on the same shoulder that saw Slater miss the second half of the 2015 season. Following last Monday night’s game against the Dragons, Slater pulled up sore and was sent for scans on his left shoulder. As a result, he will undergo an arthroscope this week to determine the extent of the damage. Ben Hampton replaces Christian Welch on the bench.
1 David Mead 2 Anthony Don 3 Josh Hoffman 4 Nathan Davis 20 Nene Macdonald 6 Tyrone Roberts 7 Ashley Taylor 8 David Shillington 9 Nathan Friend (c) 15 Ryan James 11 Zeb Taia 12 Chris McQueen 13 Greg Bird. Interchange: 10 Agnatius Paasi 16 Leivaha Pulu 17 Daniel Mortimer 18 Luke Douglas
Nene Macdonald (knee) is a late inclusion on the wing, with John Olive dropping out. Luke Douglas comes into the 17 for Eddy Pettybourne (cork). Ryan James has been promoted to start at prop, with Agnatius Paasi benched.
SHARKS V DRAGONS
Injuries/reports:
* Josh Dugan (hamstring, TBA) — likely to miss at least a few weeks
Talking points:
* Ben Barba (37) scored a try, but limped off late as the score blew out. He is not in doubt for next week, but the fact he was pulled indicates he is carrying an injury.
* Heavily backed captain Andrew Fifita (55) produced a below average score, despite the absence of Paul Gallen (knee). That being said, it was still the equal highest score of a low-scoring game for SuperCoaches.
Highlights:
* Chad Townsend (55) notched a try and try assist in a best on ground performance.
Lowlights:
* James Maloney (28) is a great of SuperCoach, but could be set for a price drop. He could be a bargain in a few weeks.
* Tim Lafai (28) was horrible in defence and is proving to be an up-and-down sleeper.
* The entire Dragons side. No player broke the half ton, with Mitch Rein (45) the top scorer.
Final teams: Dragons: 1 Kurt Mann 18 Peter Mata’utia 3 Josh Dugan 4 Tim Lafai 5 Jason Nightingale 6 Gareth Widdop (c) 7 Benji Marshall 8 Leeson Ah Mau 9 Mitch Rein 10 Russell Packer 11 Tyson Frizell 22 Joel Thompson 13 Mike Cooper. Interchange: 12 Will Matthews 14 Ben Creagh 15 Jack de Belin 17 Siliva Havili
Joel Thompson (cork) is a late inclusion in the starting back row. Will Matthews moves back to the bench, with Dunamis Lui dropping out. Peter Mata’utia scores a wing spot, with Euan Aitken omitted from the team.
Sharks: 1 Ben Barba 2 Sosaia Feki 3 Jack Bird 4 Ricky Leutele 5 Valentine Holmes 6 James Maloney 7 Chad Townsend 8 Andrew Fifita 9 Michael Ennis 15 Matt Prior 11 Luke Lewis 12 Wade Graham 17 Joseph Paulo. Interchange: 10 Sam Tagataese 13 Jayson Bukuya 14 Gerard Beale 16 David Fifita
Joseph Paulo will start in place of Jayson Bukuya, while Sam Tagataese is relegated to the bench in place of Matt Prior.
EELS V COWBOYS
Injuries/reports:
* Nathan Peats (arm) left the field late in the second half and didn’t return.
* Matt Scott on report for tackle on Ken Edwards
Talking points:
* The extent of the Nathan Peats (74) arm injury. The curse of the hooker continued when Peats left the field clutching his elbow 10 minutes before fulltime.
* Semi Radradra (23) continues to struggle and should see a hefty drop in price before he bumps up his attacking statistics against weaker opposition.
* Kieran Foran entered the season at an enticing price and with some high expectations. His first start with his new club netted an underwhelming 24 points.
* Johnathan Thurston again proved he is the most consistent SuperCoach half-back in the game with 73 points, including 24 from try assists in a losing team.
Highlights:
* Nathan Peats has the potential to become a SuperCoach gun and was instrumental in the Eels win over the premiers. He followed up his first-round 64 points with 74 (including a try and 38 tackles) before he left the field.
* He may not be SuperCoach-relevant but Ken Edwards was superb for the Eels, coming off the bench for a try-assisted 65 points.
* Ethan Lowe was a rare shining light for the Cowboys, and backed up his strong first-round showing with 79 points, including a try and 28 tackles.
Lowlight:
* Popular Eels fullback Michael Gordon (35) kicked-off 2016 at rock bottom price but followed his first-round 28 points with another low total, which included 16 points from goals. The 23 per cent of SuperCoaches who own him will be watching closely over the next few weeks.
LISTEN TO OUR ROUND TWO SUPERCOACH PODCAST
Final teams: Eels: 1 Michael Gordon 2 Semi Radradra 3 Michael Jennings 4 Brad Takairangi 5 Clint Gutherson 6 Corey Norman 7 Kieran Foran (c) 8 Junior Paulo 9 Nathan Peats 10 Tim Mannah (c) 11 Manu Ma’u 12 Beau Scott 13 Tepai Moeroa Interchange 14 Kaysa Pritchard 15 Peni Terepo 16 Danny Wicks 17 Ken Edwards
The Eels are 1-17 from Tuesday. Skipper Kieran Foran (hamstring) make’s his club debut at halfback in place of Luke Kelly. Danny Wicks replaces Daniel Alvaro on the bench.
Cowboys: 1 Lachlan Coote 2 Kyle Feldt 3 Justin O’Neill 4 Kane Linnett 5 Antonio Winterstein 6 Michael Morgan 7 Johnathan Thurston (c) 8 Matthew Scott (c) 14 Rory Kostjasyn 10 James Tamou 11 Gavin Cooper 12 Ethan Lowe 13 Jason Taumalolo Interchange 9 Jake Granville 15 John Asiata 16 Scott Bolton 17 Ben Hannant
Rory Kostjasyn will start at hooker with Jake Granville dropping back to the bench.
RABBITOHS V KNIGHTS
Injuries/reports:
* David Bhana (right ankle)
Talking points:
* Welcome back Sam Burgess (116). We missed you. With Corey Parker’s limited minutes and Paul Gallen on the injured list many will be looking to tattoo the C on Burgess. He played close to the full game and made 21 runs, 25 tackles and had 9 offloads.
* Rabbitoh cheapies Paul Carter (56) and Cody Walker (76) are borderline must-owns before price changes in round three. With injuries to Adam Reynolds and John Sutton, both players have job security and are delivering in spades.
* After lighting up the park last week Rabbitohs fullback Greg Inglis could only manage 35 points. But don’t panic if you own him. It was one of those games where others dominated and he didn’t need to. He’s still one of the safest and most consistent fullback options.
* SuperCoach cheapies Jacob (40) and Daniel Saifiti (35) both notched solid scores in base stats and could fatten nicely in the rounds to come. Another cheap forward option for the Knights is Sam Mataora. He battled gamely, posting 59 points, including 30 tackles, on top of his 44 points against the Titans.
Highlights:
* Aaron Gray (140). Three tries will do that for you but he also had a massive 40 points from line breaks and was in everything. He ran 160m and had 9 tackle busts.
* Bryson Goodwin (129). Followed up his first-match 74 with this monster SuperCoach haul. Two tries, one try assist and 18 points from line break and line break assists.
Lowlight:
* Newcastle Knights.
Final teams:
Rabbitohs: 1 Greg Inglis (c) 2 Alex Johnston 3 Bryson Goodwin 4 Hymel Hunt 5 Aaron Gray 6 Cody Walker 7 Luke Keary 8 George Burgess 9 Cameron McInnes 10 David Tyrrell 11 Paul Carter 12 Kyle Turner 13 Sam Burgess Interchange 14 Damien Cook 15 Jason Clark 16 Nathan Brown 18 Kirisome Auva’a.
Kirisome Auva’a gets the final bench spot, with Chris Grevsmuhl dropping out of the 17.
Knights: 1 Jaelen Feeney 2 Nathan Ross 3 Dane Gagai 4 Pat Mata’utia 5 Akuila Uate 6 Jarrod Mullen 7 Trent Hodkinson 8 Sam Mataora 9 Tyler Randell 10 Korbin Sims 11 Jacob Safiti 12 Robbie Rochow 13 Jeremy Smith Interchange 14 Danny Levi 15 David Bhana 16 Lachlan Fitzgibbon 17 Daniel Safiti.
The Knights are 1-17, with Kade Snowden dropping off the extended bench. Nathan Ross and Lachlan Fitzgibbon come into the side that went down to the Titans.
RAIDERS V ROOSTERS
Injuries/reports:
* Shaun Fensom (concussion) left the field at the 4th minute mark and didn’t return.
* Lachlan Croker (shoulder) left the field late in the first half.
* Vincent Leuluai (leg).
* Dylan Napa on report for a high shot on Jordan Rapana.
* Joseph Leilua on report for dangerous tackle on Shaun Kenny-Dowall and spent 10 in the sin bin for a punch late in the second half.
Talking points:
* Latrell Mitchell (55) moved into the fullback position and it paid immediate dividends for the Roosters and his SuperCoach owners.
* Big blow for 12 per cent of SuperCoaches who own tackling machine Shaun Fensom (0). He left the field early in the match with concussion and didn’t return.
* Raiders captain and popular CTW option Jarrod Croker was sitting below 20 points until a late try and conversion lifted him to 61 points.
* Popular rookie Jayden Nikorima followed his opening 50 with a try-inflated 47. He should prove a strong cash cow.
* Halves partner and the most popular player in the league Jackson Hastings, who scored 70 points on debut, came back to earth slightly with 43 against the Raiders. They mostly came in base stats and the 62 per cent of SuperCoaches who own him should be smiling.
Highlights
* Latrell Mitchell galloped out of the gates in the fullback position, to the delight of 60 per cent of SuperCoaches who own him. He scored his first try in the sixth minute and had raced to 48 points with 20 minutes left in the first half but did fade out of the game.
* Sia Soliola (96) took over Fensom’s tackling machine role and Josh Papalii (95) scored two tries, dispelling rumours he won’t be effective in 2016.
* Mitchell Aubusson (66) repaid the faith of those SuperCoaches who jumped on following the pre-season injury to Boyd Cordner.
Lowlights
* Shaun Fensom leaving the field after two tackles and -1 SuperCoach point.
* Popular bench option Vincent Leuluai’s 2 points.
Final teams:
Raiders: 1 Jack Wighton 2 Edrick Lee 3 Jarrod Croker (c) 4 Joseph Leilua 5 Jordan Rapana 6 Lachlan Croker 7 Sam Williams 8 Shannon Boyd 9 Josh Hodgson 10 Frank-Paul Nuuausala 11 Josh Papalii 12 Elliot Whitehead 13 Shaun Fensom Interchange 14 Kurt Baptiste 15 Iosia Soliola 16 Paul Vaughan 17 Jeff Lima
The Raiders are 1-17 from the team named on Tuesday. Lachlan Croker will make his NRL debut in the halves, partnering Sam Williams, who missed the first match with a virus. Blake Austin (knee) and Aidan Sezer (eye socket) are each expected to miss up to five weeks.
Roosters: 5 Latrell Mitchell 4 Shaun Kenny-Dowall 1 Blake Ferguson 3 Dale Copley 2 Daniel Tupou 6 Jayden Nikorima 7 Jackson Hastings 8 Kane Evans 9 Jake Friend (c) 10 Dylan Napa 11 Aidan Guerra 12 Mitchell Aubusson 14 Sio Siua Taukeiaho Interchange 13 Isaac Liu 15 Sam Moa 16 Ian Henderson 17 Vincent Leuluai
Good news for Latrell Mitchell owners. He moves to fullback and should see a lot more of the ball. Blake Ferguson shifts to the centres and Shaun Kenny-Dowall to the wing. Sio Siua Taukeiaho will start at lock with Isaac Liu to come off the bench.
BRONCOS V WARRIORS
Injuries/reports:
* Corey Oates left the field in the 70th minute (AC joint). He didn’t return and is out for up to six weeks.
* Blake Ayshford (concussion) left the field in the first half after a head knock and didn’t return after failing a concussion test.
* Manu Vatuvei (ribs) left the field with a rib cartridge injury and didn’t return.
* Jordan Kahu (thigh) looked to be in discomfort at times with a heavily strapped thigh. But he managed to stay on for the whole 80 minutes.
* No player citations
Talking points:
* Broncos five-eighth Anthony Milford (83) was threatening every time he ran the line. His efforts earned him two try assists, two line break assists and he kicked a field goal to put the result beyond doubt.
* Barnstorming winger Corey Oates couldn’t quite match his 90 plus score from round one but he still notched up an impressive 60 points. He crossed for a try, made a line break and three tackle busts.
* SuperCoach GOD Corey Parker (52) finished with a mediocre score — by his standards anyway. His score was impacted by the fact he only played 50 minutes. In that time he made 26 tackles, made 2 tackle busts and kicked two goals.
* Not the best day at the office for Shaun Johnson (28). The playmaker struggled to take control of the Warriors’ attack and only ran at the line once in 80 minutes.
Final teams:
Broncos: 1 Darius Boyd 2 Corey Oates 3 Jack Reed 4 James Roberts 19 Jordan Kahu 6 Anthony Milford 7 Ben Hunt 8 Josh McGuire 9 Andrew McCullough 10 Adam Blair 11 Alex Glenn 12 Matt Gillett 13 Corey Parker (c) Interchange 14 Jarrod Wallace 15 Sam Thaiday 16 Joe Ofahengaue 17 Kodi Nikorima
Jordan Kahu, who had initially missed selection due to a thigh injury, returned to start on the wing in place of round one debutant Greg Eden.
Warriors: 1 Roger Tuivasa-Sheck 2 Tuimoala Lolohea 3 Blake Ayshford 4 Solomone Kata 5 Manu Vatuvei 6 Shaun Johnson 7 Jeff Robson 8 Jacob Lillyman 9 Issac Luke 16 James Gavet 11 Bodene Thompson 12 Ryan Hoffman (c) 13 Simon Mannering Interchange 14 Nathaniel Roache 15 Sam Lisone 10 Ben Matulino 17 Raymond Faitala-Mariner
Ben Matulino dropped to the bench with James Gavet promoted to the starting side.
PANTHERS V BULLDOGS
Injuries/reports:
* James Graham on report for shoulder charge
* Aiden Tolman (concussion, TBA) — didn’t return
* Dean Whare (calf) — succumbed to the injury he brought into game
* Waqa Blake (ankle) — could barely walk, and certainly couldn’t run, for the last six minutes but had to stay on given the Panthers had no interchanges
* Sam Kasiano (thumb/wrist) — got taped up and came back on
* Josh Reynolds (back/ribs) — copped a massive hit and received attention several times, but stayed on
Talking points:
* Moses Mbye (127) was named POD of the year by our man Dave Von Kotze early in the week — and it’s hard to argue. He scored two tries (including the matchwinner), notched a try assist and broke the line three times in a man-of-the-match performance. That said, he relinquished the goalkicking duties late in the game.
* Potential cheapie Craig Garvey (59) played the full game and made a massive 55 tackles. He would be a must-have SuperCoach option if Michael Lichaa (knee) wasn’t due back in four weeks.
* James Graham (67) produced another great score but could find himself in trouble with the judiciary due to a shoulder charge.
* Popular VC option Bryce Cartwright played from the bench and could only notch 48, despite some dangerous touches.
* Potential cheapie Kerrod Holland (42) kicked the winning goal and busted four tackles in a strong debut. Put him on the watchlist, especially given he is the next cab off the rank for the injury prone Chase Stanley (hamstring).
Highlights:
* Josh Jackson (69) notched a great score all in base stats.
* Trent Merrin (57) copped a head knock but still banged out a solid score, although minutes are a worry.
Lowlights:
* Base stats machine Josh Mansour managed just 38 and had a try disallowed for an unlucky off-side.
* Last week’s revelation Aiden Tolman (concussion) went of injured early and didn’t return, scoring only 15.
Final teams:
Panthers: 19 Dean Whare 2 Josh Mansour 3 Waqa Blake 4 Peta Hiku 5 Dallin Watene-Zelezniak 6 Jamie Soward 7 Peter Wallace 8 Sam McKendry 9 Tyrone Peachey 10 Reagan Campbell-Gillard 20 Sitaleki Akauola 12 Isaah Yeo 13 Trent Merrin. Interchange: 11 Bryce Cartwright 15 Jeremy Latimore 16 Suaia Matagi 17 Elijah Taylor
This is the official team, but coach Anthony Griffin was clearly playing ducks and drakes. Dean Whare (calf) was a late inclusion in the backline, with Will Smith dropping out. Whare was named at fullback, but played centre. Dallin Watene-Zelezniak played at the back, not wing, with Waqa Blake moving to a flank. Peter Wallace was named at halfback, but played hooker, with Tyrone Peachey in the halves. Bryce Cartwright played from the bench, with 18th man Sitaleki Akauola coming into the starting side in the back row and James Fisher-Harris dropping out.
Bulldogs: 1 Will Hopoate 2 Curtis Rona 3 Josh Morris 4 Kerrod Holland 5 Sam Perrett 6 Josh Reynolds 7 Moses Mbye 8 Aiden Tolman 9 Craig Garvey 10 James Graham (c) 11 Josh Jackson 12 Tony Williams 13 Greg Eastwood. Interchange: 14 Sam Kasiano 15 Tim Browne 16 David Klemmer 17 Adam Elliott
The Bulldogs are 1-17, with Lloyd Perrett dropping off the extended bench.
