Taylan May has officially been ruled out of Sunday‘s grand final after the Panthers winger failed to overcome a hamstring injury.

May hurt his hamstring in Penrith‘s win over the Eels in week one of the finals and was also suspended for a match for his high shot on Parramatta’s Will Penisini.

Charlie Staines retained his spot on the right wing when teams are confirmed on Tuesday afternoon after filling in against South Sydney last week.

May, who has scored 16 tries in 21 games this season, didn’t take part in Tuesday’s training session and spent the day signing autographs.

“Panthers winger Taylan May has been ruled out of the 2022 NRL grand final against Parramatta,” a club statement read.

“May has not been able to overcome a hamstring injury in time for Sunday’s decider at Accor Stadium.”

May’s news comes as Parramatta coach Brad Arthur confirmed Nathan Brown would replace Bryce Cartwright on the bench, while Jakob Arthur will hold his place on the bench

Eels centre Tom Opacic also fell short of his push to make the match after re-tweaking his hamstring during a fitness test. He was named as one of five reserves.
