Tasmania’s biggest MMA star ‘Razor’ Rob Wilkinson has issued a public apology over failing a drug test prior to his hugely-anticipated fight against Ty Flores in the United States.

Light heavyweight champ Wilkinson, who was slated to face-off against Flores on June 8 in a Professional Fighters League Main Event, was pulled from scheduling on June 1 – with sporting circles widely reporting he had failed a drug test.

MMAmania.com reported the PFL light heavyweight champion was removed from his scheduled fight against Flores after allegedly “failing a drug test in the wake of his win over former UFC title challenger Thiago Santos at PFL 1 (in) April” and had been pulled from the rest of the PFL season.

In the wake of the shock suspension, Wilkinson addressed his 15,000 followers on Instagram with a public apology.

“Firstly, I would like to thank you for your support over my career and I want to provide you all with an explanation for my non-attendance in the 2023 season,” he wrote.

“After my last fight on April 1, I failed an in-competition drug test, which has resulted in my suspension for the rest of the PFL season.

“I have and will continue to reflect on all the reasons that led me down this path, but regardless of these reasons, I am extremely disappointed in myself.

“I want to emphasise that I wholeheartedly accept full responsibility for the choices I have made and the consequences that have come with it.

“To my family, friends, team, fans, and the PFL, I’ve let you down and for that I am sorry. All I can do now is learn and grow from my mistakes, as I’ve always tried to do. I will take this time to improve my skillset and will be back better than ever.
“Through every setback, is an opportunity for a stronger comeback.”
Wilkinson then said he was “looking forward to putting this behind me and getting back to what I love.”
He added: “I promise you that I will be bringing the PFL 2024 LHW belt back to Australia.”
