The man behind the cartoon character which prompted a legal to-and-fro between the AFL and Warner Brothers has congratulated Tasmania ‘Devils’ Football Club on their entry to the competition.

Jim Cummings, the voice of Looney Tunes character ‘Taz The Devil’, used his Twitter account to send a video sporting the club’s Devils logo to offer his best wishes after Monday’s team launch.

Cummings is legendary for voicing some of the world’s most famous cartoon characters including Winnie The Pooh and Tigger.

“I just want to give a shout out and a hello to all my buddies down in Tasmania. Congratulations on landing your very first AFL team. And guess what they’re called, the Tasmanian Devils!”, he said.

“He then unleashed a trademark ‘Taz like!’, the catchcry of Taz the Devil.

Cummings’ shoutout comes after Tasmania Football Club chair Grant O’Brien revealed on Tuesday some Warner Brothers executives were unaware the Tasmanian Devil is a real animal, and had to Google it, when the AFL was holding talks to share the trademark.
