Local construction worker Krystina Jacobs to hammer opponent in world title fight in Hobart

She builds kitchen benches and trains 18 hours a week, and home-town boxer Krystina Jacobs has opened up on her upcoming world title fight in Hobart. HER STORY >>

THEY call her “Mousey” but Hobart boxer Krystina Jacobs will fight like a tiger if it means landing a world championship belt in a rare home-town title bout in Hobart on March 27.

Jacobs’ opponent will be Victorian self-proclaimed “feral dog” Lorrinda Webb, who also wants the belt, making their WIBA super-featherweight stoush shape as one for the ages.

The chance to fight for a world title in her home town is a dream come true for Jacobs, who works at Vos Construction building benchtops.

“I never thought I’d get the chance to fight for a world title so to be able to do it at home is going to be great,” Jacobs said.

“I want to win it.

“This is a big opportunity so I want to take it with both hands.

“As soon as I found out it was a possibility I was in, 100 per cent.

“I’ve been training to fight for six rounds, and it’s going to be over 10 now, so I’m going to be ready.

“I’ve taken my training a whole new level.

“I’m training every morning and every night, three hours a day, six days a week.”

The rivalry is intense between Jacobs and Webb.

“The last time I fought her as an amateur I won by a split point,” Jacobs said.

“It’s going to be a very close fight.

“If I win it shows I can take on the top people.”

Webb was preparing for a world title fight at the same time last year but it was cancelled due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

“I trained for eight solid weeks for that fight and it was called off the week before,” Webb said.

“I would have preferred this fight to be at home in Bendigo in front of a home crowd.

“But I’m just happy to have the opportunity to fight for it.

“We had a really good fight last time we met and I’m looking forward to this one because we have both matured a lot more since then.”

Webb has an interesting take on her fighting style.

“I’m a feral dog and a southpaw, so I’m a bit different, and I’m a bit shorter than ‘Mousey’, but that’s fine by me,” Webb said.

The bumper undercard features some of Australia’s best talent including local hero and former Australian cruiserweight champion Jayden “Plugger” Joseph and the undefeated Bo Belbin, who is 3-0 having his first professional fight in Tasmania.
