A pair of Taylors Lakes twins are inspiring each other to greater deeds as the Australian Little Athletics Championships looms this weekend in Adelaide.
Hannah and Sienna Gec will compete in the under-15s heptathlon, which consists of seven different events over two days, and then the 4x100 mixed relay
The duo followed their older brother into Little Aths and have been doing “countless hours” in the lead up to the championships.
The two-day event will be broadcast on KommunityTV including all track events and select field competitions across three live and exclusive streams.

Sienna said the heptathlon can be a challenge discipline with so many components to focus on and perfect at training.
“I’m very lucky to have a sister who is my age and does athletics as well, as we are able to push each other whilst training and it’s always nice to have someone by your side when either training or competing,” Sienna said.
“She allows me to stay relaxed and always makes the comp fun.
“However that means that we are constantly versing each other, but by now we’re both used to it.”
She said the pair “immediately fell in love” with Little Aths once they began competing in the under-6 bracket.
“I absolutely love how fun Little Athletics is,” she said.
“There is a strong sense of community … especially when relays begin, that’s where I have most of my amazing athletics friends.”
She said the best piece of advice she had received was that growth doesn’t come from winning, it’s from the losses and how you work through them.
Meanwhile, Hannah said her love for the sport began at the age of two, recalling cheering on her brother at a local track in Keilor.
More than a decade later, she still feels the same passion and love for the discipline.
“I have loved athletics ever since I could remember,” he said.
Hannah agreed with Sienna, saying preparation for the heptathlon can be “very hard to handle” with so many different events and techniques to master.
“I have mainly been focusing on the events that I am not as confident (in) and could improve further on for the competition,” she said.
“This includes, long jump, hurdles and javelin.
“I have also maintained my stamina by doing daily endurance cardio whilst also improving and balancing my speed and fast twitch muscles in order to be explosive not just in the block start but also when jumping and throwing.”
She said it was very helpful being able to train alongside her twin sister and it helped her grow as an athlete.
“We both push each other in training and as if we are competing in a competition, which has helped me perform stronger,” she said.
“However, although I love competing with Sienna, it’s a little sad that we both enjoy doing the same events.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love versing my sister as we are super competitive but it’s a shame that we cannot share a gold together, rather, one has to beat the other.
“Usually it’s Sienna beating me to gold, so it gets a little frustrating when regional and state track and field and we have to try to pick different events so that we can both medal and not let the other sister miss out.”
She said “discipline is the foundation upon which all success is built, (a) lack of discipline inevitably leads to failure” was one of her favourite mottos.
