Tasmania’s emerging track and field stars are ready to take the national stage by storm.
The state will send a 42-member team to the Australian Little Athletics Championships in Adelaide this weekend.
The two-day event will be live streamed on KommunityTV including all track events and select field competitions across our three live and exclusive streams.
It’s been a tight turnaround for Tassie’s future stars who have undergone a six week training block ahead of the event including two statewide training days.

“Coaches have carefully crafted programs to ensure our sprinters, middle distance, walkers, throwers and jumpers are as prepared as possible to take on the best Little Athletes in Australia,” Tasmania team coach Anna Davie said.
Madeleine Sinquin Van Santen (Hobart) and Maxim Otahal (Queensborough) have been named team captains.
Madeleine holds state records in the high jump and will compete in the under-15 combined event this weekend.
She recently took on the nation’s best at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Perth, returning home as a national champion.
“I can’t wait for my high jump event, where I can make new friendships and compete with incredible athletes,” she said.
“I hope to achieve a gold medal in the high jump again, but I am aware that my other competitors are always improving and you never know what can happen on the day.
“I am looking forward to socialising with my teammates while performing the chants.”
Otahal is aiming for a new personal best in the long jump, looking to get over 5m.
“I’d also like our 4x100m relay to go well,” he said.
“I like that I’m competing in a team with the other Tassie athletes that I usually compete against.
“I’ve already made some new friends from training with the team and it’s been really fun.”
Burnie’s Sianna Adkins is another to keep an eye on. This season, she has achieved an Australian best performance and several state records in the javelin.
Tassie team manager Teresa Hatten said she was excited about the team’s potential.
“This competition is quite unique as the focus is on competing for team points across the 16 events,” Hatten said.
“Our athletes have really embraced the team spirit this year, there’s a lot of respect and appreciation for each other.”
