Northern NSW have kicked off the National Youth Championships with a flurry, while a Queensland side showed its fighting spirit on a big opening day. Watch all the Field 5 REPLAYS.

An Alexis Collins double and a sweet low strike from Aaliyah Kilroy gave Northern NSW Under-16s the perfect start to the Football Australia National Youth Championships.

Collins broke a 1-1 deadlock against Western Australia, before heading home a late exclamation point on the sides 4-1 win on the opening day of the tournament.

Impressive midfielder Laura Knipe proved why she has caught the eye of Junior Matildas selectors with a strong performance setting up two goals to start the tournament.

The Northern NSW side remain undefeated after capping off the opening day action on Field 5 at the Home of the Matildas with a thrilling 1-1 draw against Queensland Silver.

While the NSW side maintained control across most of the clash, the Queensland side showed plenty of fighting spirit late in the contest to level the scores.

Aaliyah Goodrum typified the fighting Queensland performance, refusing to give up on the match-sealing play after getting a last ditch header onto the ball to sneak it past Northern NSW keeper Darla-Rose Black.

The Queensland side continued to fight tooth and nail to defend their goal square, holding on to secure a point out of the contest.

In other Field 5 action Queensland Maroon picked up an all-important 1-0 win over Victoria White in the Under-15s tournament while a Charlie Cramp goal was the only thing that seperated NSW Country and Tasmania.

PREVIEW

Northern NSW were one of the surprise packets in the girls National Youth Championships last year, and have a chance to prove it was no fluke on day one in Victoria.

The under-16 side which is spearheaded by NPL young guns Marissa Masterantonio and Kealah Boldery as well as Junior Matildas midfielder Laura Knipe, will bookend the action on field five against Western Australia and Queensland Silver.

The clash will kick off a big opening day of action on field five at the Home of the Matildas which includes five games across the Under-15 and Under-16 tournaments.

Western Australia will be determined to improve on their performance at last year’s tournament with a new-look Under-16s squad ready to take on the nation’s best.

In other action on field five, Tasmania will be determined to make a strong start to its Under-15s campaign when the side clashes with NSW Country while Queensland Maroons Under-15s will take on Victoria White.

Every match of the Football Australia Girls National Youth Championships will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from July 3-8.

The boys tournament will also be exclusively live streamed from July 16-21.
