The Basketball SA District League finals have produced some surprising outcomes with a couple of the big seeds rocked. Relive all the qualifying and elimination finals in full REPLAYS.

A ferocious Central Districts Lions have blasted aside the South Adelaide Panthers to storm into the men’s under-21 grand final at the Basketball SA District League reserves and youth playoffs.

Dominant throughout the season, the Lions were no mood for pleasantries as they turned a five-point halftime deficit into a 16-point pumping in their qualifying showdown.

The Panthers seemed up for the fight with a first-quarter blitz which saw them up by nine points at the break.

But the Lions slowly found their groove in the second and third quarters with some telling long-range baskets.

From there, it was a bit of showtime as they thundered to the final buzzer for a 92-76 result.

The Panthers will have to regroup quickly for next week’s preliminary final when they take on the Norwood Flames, who outclassed the North Adelaide Rockets 102-87 in their elimination final.

Jumping North Adelaide in the first half, the Panthers always held sway as they extended their season for at least another week.

The Norwood Flames are also through to the women’s under-23 preliminary final after a 12-point quarter-time advantage made the task a bridge too far for elimination final opponents Sturt Sabres.

Although the Sabres competed on equal terms with the Flames thereafter, they couldn’t make any headway into the deficit, going down 53-67.

The Flames will next take on the South Adelaide Panthers, who fell short against the West Adelaide Bearcats by eight points in hotly contested qualifying final.

The Bearcats, featuring some of the best young talent in SA women’s basketball, now enjoy a week off before their grand final where they will start short favourites.

What appeared on paper as another potential classic between fierce adversaries Sturt Sabres and Forestville Eagles petered out to comfortable win and a men’s reserves grand final appearance for the later.

The Eagles simply took flight at the tip-off and from there never looked back.

Blowing the lead out beyond 20 points at the half, Forrestville cruised home for a 87-72 victory to set their sights on their next assignment in two weeks.

The vanquished Sabres will now come face to face with the Central District Lions, who had their elimination final well and truly in the bag by halftime before easing up to win 83-71.

It was a huge night for the Forestville Eagles, as they also overcame season heavyweights the West Adelaide Bearcats in the women’s reserves competition.

The Eagles trailed for most of the contest before coming home strongly to upset their highly credentialed rivals 64-59.

While the Eagles will rest up next week, the Bearcats will be seeking quick redemption when they come up against the Sturt Sabres, who saw off the Woodville Warriors 73-63 in their eliminator.

PREVIEW

Grand final spots will be on the line as the best young basketballers across South Australia clash in the Basketball SA District League reserves and youth finals.

Four courts of finals action across two venues will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV on Tuesday night.

The finals action includes qualifying and elimination finals across the Under-21 Men, Under-23 Women and Reserves Men and Women.

Basketball SA competitions manager Jeremy Ramintas said he expected the action to be fast-paced and some results would be too close to call before the final whistle.

“These games are always high in intensity,” he said. “It really doesn’t matter what teams are playing, when finals start it is anyone’s game.

“Both of the reserves mens and women's competitions were quite close this season.”

In the Reserves Men finals Forestville Eagles, led by the league’s best player Stefan Gould, overcame Central District Lions in last week’s opening round of finals to book their spot in the grand final qualifier against minor premiers Sturt Sabres.

The two clubs have a storied rivalry which has transcended their classic battles in the NBL1 Central competition and is felt right through the district league competition.

The Lions will clash with South Adelaide Panthers in the elimination final.

An impressive West Adelaide Bearcats reserves women’s side, which features junior Opals representatives Coco Hodges and Sienna Lehmann, will feel refreshed after their week off last week ahead of a qualifying showdown with Forestville Eagles.

The Bearcats have been the standard bearers of the competition this season only dropping two games on their run to the minor premiership. One of those losses, however, came against their finals rivals back in the opening round of the season.

“I think that result would have been left well in the past by both sides,” Ramintas said.

“Both teams are completely different now to what they were back in the first round of the season. They have both grown over the course of the year.”

In the Under-21 men table-toppers Central District Lions will look to electric scorer Caleb Bennington to ignite their qualifying showdown wagainst South Adelaide Panthers.

Bennington has exploded over the past month of the competition averaging more than 23 points per game in his last three outings — all wins for the high-flying Lions.

North Adelaide Rockets will take on Norwood Flames in the elimination final.

West Adelaide Bearcats Under-21 women tuned up nicely for the finals with a 34-point win over Central Districts Lions to cement their spot as the top dogs in the play-offs.

The Bearcats, led by the impressive Sophie Barker, will go head-to-head with a Norwood Flames side full of confidence after knocking off their rivals in a one-point thriller the last time the two sides faced-off.

South Adelaide Panthers finished the season in third only narrowly behind their rivals, and will be big favourites to power past Sturt Sabres in the elimination final after building plenty of momentum with a 60-point win in the final round of the season.
