The Hobart Football Club has announced long-serving senior player Dylan Huxley as its new coach in the wake of Alex Gilmour’s departure.
Huxley, who joined the Tigers back in 2012, replaces the former Richmond Old Scholars premiership coach following his announcement back in February that he was standing down due to “personal reasons”.
Hobart president Josh Munting said Huxley’s appointment was one of a player that has shown incredible commitment to the club for over 10 years.
“As a club and a board we are excited that Dylan has committed to the role as we know his loyalty to the club is second to none,” Munting said.
“We look forward to continuing our club’s culture and positive environment together for season 2023 and beyond.”
Munting also thanked the interim coaching group supported by Nathan Hartnett and Darryn Perry, stating that their support and contribution was invaluable in supporting the club to find a suitable coach given the challenging circumstances.
The 29-year-old is no stranger to a head coaching position at the Tigers as he lead the under 19’s to a grand final in 2021 before taking on a role as assistant coach to Gilmour in 2022.
The former North Hobart and New Norfolk player will also reach life membership this season when plays his 150th senior and reserves game for the Tigers.
Hobart is set to kick off its SFL season with a match against Cygnet at the TCA Ground on Good Friday.
