The Hobart Football Club is on the search for a new senior coach just seven weeks out from the start of the SFL season with Alex Gilmour resigning.
The Mercury can exclusively reveal that Gilmour told club officials late last week of his departure with president Josh Munting releasing the below statement on Monday afternoon.
“Alex Gilmour has tendered his resignation as senior coach of the Hobart Football Club, with immediate effect,” Munting said.
“Alex has cited personal reasons for his departure. The board of the football club has been acting swiftly to identify a suitable replacement for the senior coaching role for the 2023 season.
“More information will be available towards the end of this week, but we can assure you the strength of the side and our passion for the 2023 season is alive and well.”
The Mercury understands playing assistant coach Brad Joseph is also departing the club.
The former Richmond Old Scholars premiership coach made the move to the TCA ahead of the 2020 season and was contracted to coach the club until the end of 2023.
Hobart won four games in 2022, finishing seventh on the ladder with the club set to kick off its season on Friday April 7 against Cygnet at the TCA Ground.
