A SECOND former experienced Cricket Tasmania coach is in line to return to the organisation under its new administration.

A week after the Mercury revealed axed Tigers head coach Dan Marsh was in the mix for the assistant role in the female program under Salliann Briggs, it has emerged Ali de Winter could also be rejoining CT.

MORE: DAN MARSH COULD BE COMING BACK

The personal trainer is in the running for Adam Griffith’s assistant role, which was advertised after Richard Allanby was told his contract would not be renewed.

De Winter was the inaugural coach of the Hobart Hurricanes in the first season of the Big Bash and spent three years in the Australian set-up as bowling coach.

He replaced Craig McDermott as the country’s bowling coach in 2012, but had his duties reduced to the limited overs sphere in October 2013 when McDermott rejoined the Test squad.

After parting ways with Cricket Australia in early 2015, de Winter joined TSL side Tigers as its strength and conditioning coach.

“Ali is involved in some interviews at the moment, he has been in interviews for a couple of the roles in the men’s program,” Cricket Tasmania CEO Nick Cummins told the Mercury.

“We are not quite there yet in terms of our final candidates.”

Cummins confirmed the organisation had approached both Marsh and de Winter about their interest in the available positions.

“We will advertise and look at the quality of applicants but there are also people we are interested in talking to,” he said.

“With the assistant coaches, we had a group of applications but we also went out and approached two, three or four other people directly who we were interested in interviewing.

“My policy has always been get the best person, not the best person available. Just because someone doesn’t apply, doesn’t mean they are not interested.

“Dan was one person we approached and asked him to apply, Ali is another one just from stuff he has been doing with the program just with the bowlers.

“There are also others we have approached, and those who have come through the traditional coaching network when we placed the ad.”

An official announcement on the positions is expected in the coming days.
