Ella Marsh continues family’s cricket dynasty with stunning start to women’s CTPL season

HER dad famously captained Tasmania to its first ever Sheffield Shield title and Ella Marsh is now forging her own identity on the cricket field.

The talented teenager — who has represented the state in both cricket and netball — played a starring role for North Hobart as the Demons chalked up five consecutive CTPL women’s victories on Sunday.

Marsh compiled her maiden first grade half century against the Greater Northern Raiders at the NTCA, before backing up with three wickets with the ball in the visitors’ 27-run win.

The 17-year-old scored a fluent 51 (43 balls, seven boundaries) alongside captain Hannah Short (70 not out from 56) as the Dees posted 4-152.

She was then entrusted with the new ball and finished with figures of 3-25 from her four overs, including Raiders’ top scorer Kate Chaplin for 42.

It comes after another fine double of 28 and 3-16 last week against New Town.

At New Town, the Bucks secured a tight four-wicket victory against Clarence in a match that went down to the wire.

Batting first the Roos posted 6-117, with Taylor Brooks (28), Hollie Armitage (25) and Samantha Roberts (23 not out) leading the way as Emily Mifsud took the bowling honours with 2-19.

Thanks largely to Bonnie Davies, the hosts paced the run chase to perfection.

Davies did the bulk of the work in scoring 64 from 58 balls, whittling the equation down to four runs required from the last over.

Although she fell with New Town still trailing by a solitary run, Jessica Owen finished the job with three balls spare.
