After not being able to find a spot in the Tigers best XI last season, Jake Weatherald has shown exactly what he is capable of doing.
Weatherald topped off his season with the highest run scorer to take out the Ricky Ponting Medal for the men’s best player across both Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup.
The opening bat amassed 906 runs which included three hundreds at an average of 68.27.
The 30-year-old moved from South Australia at the end of the 2022/23 season and joined the Tigers the very next Australian summer.
But the left hander had to watch most of the Tigers games from the sidelines as form kept him out of the team.
A strong County summer in England flipped things around for Weatherald as he claimed the award, finishing above Beau Webster and Mitch Owen.
Weatherald also claimed the David Boon Medal for the Sheffield Shield Player of the Season.
Tigers all-rounder Maisy Gibson claimed this years Veronica Pyke medal, crowned the best women’s player.
Gibson, who did not hold a central Tasmanian Tigers contract last season, returned with a vengeance in the 2024/25 season.
The leg spinner finished equal second for the competition with 23 wickets, with an economy rate of 4.39 which was one of the lowest in the competition.
Gibson claimed the award ahead of outgoing star Molly Strano and Nicola Carey.
Big Bash hero Mitch Own claimed the Hobart Hurricanes BBL Player of the Year.
Playing in a new role in BBL14, Owen was promoted to open the batting and dominated from the outset, becoming a fan favourite in the Purple Army and helped claim the inaugural trophy for the Hurricanes.
While Nicola Carey was named the Hurricanes WBBL Player of the Year.
