Replay: SFL Round 6 - University v Hutchins (Women)

There was plenty to talk about in the latest round of Southern Football League action.

Here are all the major talking points from the weekend.

CYGNET SKIPPER’S MILESTONE

As Cygnet skipper Joe Direen booted six goals in his side’s win over Dodges Ferry, the Port star brought up a special milestone. He has now kicked 500 senior goals for the club. Direen now sits at the top of the competition goalkicking charts with 32 majors from five games, one clear of Huonville Lions Ethan Brock. Matt Direen made his senior debut for the Port. Jakob Lister, Mitchell Lister, Max Polley, Elijah Cowen and Nathan Duggan were also impressive in the big win.

FYFE FLYING FOR LINDISFARNE

Big name Lindisfarne recruit Dylan Fyfe is quickly finding his best form. The Southport premiership player was best afield in his side’s 23-point win over Sorell on the weekend, spoiling Paul Puopolo’s appearance for the home side. It continues a strong run for Fyfe who has been named in the best in his side’s last three games. Dylan Johns took his season tally to 13 goals with a game-high five. The dynamic Ryan Martin booted three of his own. Daniel Blazely, Ed Stanley and Alex Gaul also impressed.

RECRUIT’S BIG IMPRESSION

Huonville Lions recruit Bradley Blake produced a strong showing in his side’s big win over Hobart, being named the best player on the ground. Blake joined the club this year from Bunbury in Western Australia and has so far played four games. Ethan Brock continued his strong form in front of goal with eight majors while Sam Voss kicked two in his 50th game.

REP GUNS FIRE FOR KINGBOROUGH

Several representative players made their mark in Kingborough’s 53-point win over Lauderdale on Saturday. Priscilla Odwogo, who represented Tassie against Queensland last year, produced one of her best performances of the season with a best on ground display. Georgie Bailey starred in front of goal with a game-high three majors, to take her tally to nine for the season. Meanwhile former AFLW player Perri King continued her brilliant last month of action with another mention in the best as she kicked two goals. Kingborough remains on top of the ladder undefeated.

HUTCHINS MAKE BRUTAL STATEMENT

University entered Saturday’s SFLW division two clash with a perfect record. Hutchins quickly put an end to it with a 48-point win. Young gun Molly Crosby impressed in a performance which included a goal. Daisy Murphy was awarded the best on ground medal as her side claimed the Lifeline Shield. Mimosa Middleton-Miller provided a strong target inside forward 50 with two goals. Hutchins skipper Molly Garrett was inspirational to also be named in the best alongside Alexandra Badenach and Sophie Botterill-James.
