SuperCoach 2016: Top scores, trade advice after AFL Round 2

WELCOME to one of the biggest weeks on the SuperCoach calendar. Trading is a must before prices chance and league matches start this weekend. So who do we pick and who do we dump?

IT’S Round 3 week and that means the SuperCoach trade shop is open for business.

Trading should always be treated with caution — we only have 30 for the season, after all — but this week you can forget all that.

Player prices haven’t changed yet but they will after a player’s third game. For most players that is after this weekend, which means we need to move now to make sure we dump the players holding our teams back and pounce on the players about to skyrocket in price.

It is especially important to ensure you have the right rookies — these are the guys who will generate the most cash that we can use to trade more superstars into our squads during the year.

YOUR MATES HAVEN’T JOINED SUPERCOACH? IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO START A LEAGUE!

Most experienced SuperCoach players allow for two “corrective trades” this week to make sure their teams are in top shape for the price changes — which also happen to coincide with the start of head-to-head matches in 18-team leagues.

This is also the last week we’ll get SuperCoach Gold for free, so make the most of it. (Then sign up for a full season pass!)

So, who should we be looking to trade in and out this week?

You can get a heads-up on price movements by checking out a players’ break-even score — that’s the number they need to hit to maintain their current price.

The player with the lowest break-even is Sydney forward Tom Papley. After topping 100 in his first two games, a score of anything above -149 will lead to a price jump. We’re tipping he’ll do that against GWS.

Negative break-evens equal a guaranteed price rise and the lower the better — if Papley scores well again his score could stay in the negative for a few more weeks, delivering the regular price rises we are looking for to really fatten our cash cows.

Essendon’s Mitch Brown (-46) and Matt Dea (-41) and popular cheapies Jacob Weitering, Mitch McGovern, Lincoln McCarthy, Callum Mills, Clayton Oliver and Wayne Milera all have negative break-evens, but they’ll need some good scores to keep the BE low.

On the other side of the coin, Dane Swan has the highest break-even of 334 — if he doesn’t score that in his next match, his price will plummet.

That’s tough on Swanny after an early injury in Round 1 led to a score of 0, but other big guns who haven’t met expectations in the first two rounds are due for a price cut, which is bad news if they are in your team but good news if they aren’t — you might be able to pick them up at a bargain price in coming weeks.

Heath Shaw (break-even 194), Todd Goldstein (185), Nat Fyfe (174) and Scott Pendlebury (167) all fit in this category.

We wouldn’t be trading them out given their SuperCoach history — thousands of coaches who offloaded Fyfe a week ago are kicking themselves now after be bounced back with 157 against Gold Coast — but if you have the likes of Michael Barlow, Tom Rockliff or Jack Billings the trade finger would be very itchy indeed.

Read on for our best options for trading in and out in one of the biggest weeks on the SuperCoach calendar. Let’s go shopping!
