Adelaide is at the crossroads after Richmond upset it at home.

The Tigers made a raft of changes and will go into Dustin Martin’s 300th on the winners’ list.

THE THREE TAKEAWAYS

NANK TOOK IT PERSONALLY

Adelaide brought in an inexperienced ruckman in Kieran Strachan to play against Toby Nankervis and then put key forward Chris Burgess in the ruck when it needed to sub out the injured Strachan.

The Richmond captain took it personally by racking up 151 SuperCoach points in a nuclear night.

Nankervis registered 43 hitouts, 13 disposals and seven tackles.

Of his four marks, none were more important than his intercept grab deep in defence after the Crows transitioned from Noah Cumberland’s dumb reversal free kick late in the third term.

BILLY SHOWED ENOUGH

Billy Dowling showed enough to be a worthwhile trade for a large portion of SuperCoaches this week.

He was the sixth-most traded in player across the league and the fourth-highest among the top one per cent of SuperCoaches.

With a break even of 24, Dowling had an excellent night by finishing with 59.

He rattled home in the last quarter with his maiden goal as well as other important involvements.

Unfortunately he could have put the Crows within a kick but sprayed his shot on goal late.

BALTA GOES BIG

Adelaide simply couldn’t get it past Noah Balta all night.

He might not have finished with a large tally of SuperCoach points (93), but he kept the Tigers in the game whenever the Crows challenged his side.

If it wasn’t for a strong final quarter from direct opponent Darcy Fogarty, Balta would have been a lock for the three votes.

The defender spoke to Fox Footy post game about his nervous final quarter, making a joke out of Fogarty’s “clinic”.

“In that last quarter Darcy Fogarty put a clinic on me, I just tried to fight and scrap,” he said.

10:07: FT — TIGERS HOLD ON

Adelaide’s hopes of finals in 2024 are all but over after Richmond held off the fast-finishing Crows to record its second win of the year.

The Crows got within eight points but the plucky Tigers showed maturity in the tight finish.

Toby Nankervis was sublime in the ruck while Liam Baker and Noah Balta also had enormous nights.

On Fox Footy’s post-game coverage, St Kilda champion Leigh Montagna was scathing of the Crows, saying “they are a shell of the team they were last year”.

9:59: BILLY!

Billy Dowling has had an excellent quarter and his first goal couldn't have come at a better time.

He has put Adelaide back within nine points with six minutes to go.

Dowling has hurried to 52 SuperCoach points on debut.

9:55: TEAMMATES, WHO NEEDS THEM?

Mark Keane has produced a piece of magic on the last line of defence.

Under pressure, Keane handballed to himself over the head of his Richmond opponent, showing he can do it all on his own.

9:53: 10-MINUTE WARNING

There’s 10 minutes left in the last Thursday night home-and-away match of the year and Richmond leads by 15 points.

The Crows season is on the line at Adelaide Oval, can they deliver one final push to prevent an upset?

The Tigers just activated sub Kane McAuliffe at the expense of Tyler Sonsie.

Sonsie had little impact from his 11 disposals.

9:43: A SETH STUNNER

Seth Campbell has kicked a stunning goal to push the gap back out to 15 points.

Up against the boundary line at full tilt, Campbell slotted the tide-changing goal at half-post height.

9:39: FOG MAKES IT A DOUBLE

Just moments after Josh Rachele gave the Crows life, Darcy Fogarty has kicked his third.

It’s just 10 points now.

Does Noah Cumberland’s brain fade come back to hurt the Tigers?

9:36: RACHELE TRIMS LEAD

Josh Rachele has trimmed Richmond’s lead back to just 16 points with an early fourth-term goal.

It’s his second of the evening after he kicked Adelaide’s first of the night.

The Crows have subbed out big man Kieran Strachan.

9:29: 3QT — MCINTOSH LANDS LATE BLOW AS KOSCHITZKE FACES TROUBLE

Kamdyn McIntosh gave Richmond a 22-point lead late in the quarter but it could have been more.

The goal came just seconds after forward Jacob Koschitzke hit Adelaide’s Mark Keane off the ball.

Koschitzke threw a left elbow and floored Keane behind a stoppage.

Koschitzke took a mark over the recovered Keane after the goal but Noah Cumberland gave away the free kick by pushing Keane over again.

Had the goal been kicked the Tigers would have led by 28 points at three-quarter time.

9:21: THANKS, UMP!

Harry Schoenberg has stopped Richmond’s run of five goals in the shadows of three-quarter time.

It came through a free kick which was paid against Jack Graham.

As the ball fell out in a tackle, Graham continued on with the tackle and held Schoenberg.

The umpire and Graham had a respectful exchange captured in the coverage’s umpire mic.

Graham asked “how am I meant to see that?” to which the umpire politely replied “it’s unlucky but it’s a free kick”.

9;15: ADELAIDE ON THE ROPES

Liam Baker has put Richmond four goals in front.

The Tigers have now booted five unanswered goals since the Crows kicked the first of the half inside the first minute.

Baker has rushed to the top of the SuperCoach charts with 91 points.

9:10: THEY’RE ROARING

Richmond has silenced the Adelaide Oval crowd with four consecutive goals early in the third term.

Noah Cumberland, three goals, has been a revelation for the Tigers while his teammates are following suit.

The visitors lead by three goals with 13 minutes left in the quarter.

9:04: RICHMOND WON’T LET THEM HAVE IT

Richmond has its nose in front after two quick goals.

The Tigers are inspired tonight and won’t allow the Crows to take the four points home without a fight.

9:00: BORLASE ON THE BOARD

James Borlase has got the Crows flying out of the half-time break.

In the absence of some important forwards, Borlase has been moved forward tonight.

He had a chance after the first-quarter siren and missed from 10 metres out but on this occasion he kicked truly.

Borlase has 49 SuperCoach points.

8:45: QUIET KEAYS

Adelaide gun Ben Keays has been unusually quiet tonight, going into the main break with just one kick.

He is Adelaide’s second worst performing SuperCoach player on the ground with 18 points.

Only tall forward Chris Burgess has less (12).

Keays has a low break even of 51 but looks a mile off it at this stage.

8:40: HT — THE SMALLEST OF MARGINS

Just one point separates Adelaide and the one-win Richmond at the main break.

Jordan Dawson launched back into the game for the Crows while Jayden Short, Liam Baker and Noah Balta had a big quarter for the Tigers.

Balta has 15 disposals and nine marks for the return of 70 points.

8:34: AND HE’S BACK

We noted Jordan Dawson’s slow start to the game with the insurance of mentioning his ability to explode.

Well, he’s done it.

After having 14 SuperCoach points early in this quarter, Dawson will go into the main break on track for another 100 plus night.

Dawson has 56 points with two minutes left in the half.

8:30: THEY AREN’T RUSTY

Richmond’s two key ins — Dion Prestia and Tim Taranto — are showing no signs of rust in their return match.

Prestia (48 SuperCoach points) and Taranto (43) both look on track to crack a century.

The Tigers will need the ton and more from the two gun midfielders however, as they trail the Crows by two points.

8:20: WE’RE BACK

It’s time for another Billy Dowling update.

Dowling was traded the sixth-most traded in player this week, the fourth-most by SuperCoaches in the top one per cent.

His break even of 24 looks in serious strife, with the first-gamer on 20 halfway through the first.

8:17: BALTA!

Noah Balta is simply dominating for Richmond.

As Adelaide mounts an early-quarter push, the Tigers’ defender is holding strong in the back 50.

He has 13 disposals and eight marks for the return of 64 SuperCoach points.

Balta needs some of his teammates to go with him because the Crows are looking dangerous.

8:13: DAWSON OFF TO SLUGGISH START

Adelaide’s Jordan Dawson is not his typical self so far against Richmond as he carries a foot injury.

Dawson, who is among the best SuperCoach premiums in the game, has just 14 points in three minutes into the second quarter.

He has the capacity to erupt but remains one to closely watch.

8:02: QT — LATE GOALS TRIM TIGERS MARGIN

Two late goals to Adelaide has shadowed Richmond’s bold start.

The Crows kicked two majors in red time to trail by only six points at the first change.

It could have been an even smaller lead for the Tigers if Adelaide defender-turn-forward James Borlase didn’t miss from 10 metres out after the siren.

Richmond’s Noah Balta’s 10-disposals, seven-mark first term has him atop of the SuperCoach charts with 49 points.

7:57: RACHELLE GETS THE CROWS AWAY

Josh Rachelle has broken the Crows’ goal drought with an important kick late in the first quarter.

He was the only player on the ground to have not touched the footy before he put the Crows on the board.

It was a much-needed goal for the Crows, who are off to another slow start.

7:54: THE RUNNING MAN(SELL)

A dashing goal from Rhyan Mansell has given Richmond some reward for its first-quarter dominance.

Mansell got out the back and took a couple bounces before his neat finish.

The Crows are yet to kick a goal while the Tigers have three.

7:50: RICHMOND NEED REWARD

Richmond has made an excellent start at Adelaide Oval but only has a two-goal lead to show for it.

The Tigers are hunting the Crows but haven’t been able to apply any scoreboard pressure.

Noah Balta is closing in on a SuperCoach half-century in the opening term while Kamdyn McIntosh is looking ominous.

7:42:KAMDYN STRIKES

Kamdyn McIntosh has kicked Richmond’s second goal in a strong start at Adelaide Oval.

Winning his first free kick of the year, McIntosh went back and put the Tigers up by two goals.

7:35: WELL, THEY WON’T NEED TO REVIEW THAT 50

Jack Graham has given away one of the more obvious 50-metre penalties to start Thursday night footy.

After Adelaide ruckman Kieran Strachan took a mark, Graham chased him as if it was open play.

Collingwood premiership player Dale Thomas said “I am not sure what he was doing” on the Channel 7 coverage.

Richmond’s Noah Cumberland is the only goal kicker so far.

7:00: WE CAN DO IT WITHOUT TEX, SAYS NICKS

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks says his side is capable of kicking a winning score without champion goal-kicker Taylor Walker.

Speaking to Fox Footy pre-game, Nicks announced the Crows ready to tackle Richmond without their sharpshooter but has urged it must be done for the full 120 minutes.

“We know we can play without him there, the challenge is for us to do it for four quarters,” he said.

The Crows kicked 10 goals after half time without Walker last week against Hawthorn.

6:43: DOWLING WATCH

We’ll be on Billy Dowling watch tonight.

The Adelaide rookie was the sixth-most traded in player this week, added by nearly 6000 SuperCoaches.

He’s dual position player (mid-fwd) and costs $123,900.

Jon Ralph revealed on Fox Footy pre-game: “he’s (Dowling) a midfielder but he will probably play half forward tonight”.

A break even of 24 ... can he get there?

6:40: FINAL TEAMS

Adelaide and Richmond have named their respective substitutes for the final Thursday night fixture of the year.

First-year player Kane McAuliffe will be the Tigers’ sub while Ned McHenry will be the Crows’ sub.

Neither side has had a late change.
