St Kilda revamp recruiting team as Jarryd Roughead resigns, Simon Dalrymple poached from Sydney

The shake-up at St Kilda has continued with the club landing a highly-regarded talent spotter from the Swans. But the coup comes as another big name walks out the door.

St Kilda has landed Sydney’s highly regarded recruiting manager Simon Dalrymple as the Saints further revamp their list management team.

It comes as recruiter Jarryd Roughead resigned from his role at the Saints, in another staff change at the club.

Rival clubs expected St Kilda to make a move for Dalrymple, who helped build the Western Bulldogs’ 2016 premiership list before moving to Sydney in 2018, following the Saints letting national recruiting manager Chris Toce go earlier this month.

The move to let Toce go was part of ongoing changes to the club’s football department.

Dalrymple, who drafted stars Marcus Bontempelli and Aaron Naughton in his time at the Bulldogs after taking over recruitment there in 2009, will be the Saints talent identification and player movement manager.

More recently, Dalrymple had success at Sydney, drafting Chad Warner with pick 39.

The Swans said on Saturday Dalrymple had a positive impact on the club in his six years in Sydney.

Swans executive general manager football Leon Cameron said he had significantly assisted in building the quality of Sydney’s playing list.

“Simon has played a pivotal role in our list build since joining the club back in 2018,” Cameron said.

“He has a great ability to identify talent, and we believe our playing list is in good shape thanks largely to Simon.”

Dalrymple will arrive at the club without Roughead, after the former Hawthorn star resigned from his role at St Kilda before Christmas.

The four-time premiership winner with the Hawks spent four-years at the Saints, with an increased focus on recruitment in recent years.
