HE’S known as the Rock by his teammates and now Lauderdale’s onball enforcer Phil Bellchambers is playing his trade in the Bombers’ backline as he hits his 150-game milestone against the Tigers at the Twin Ovals today.

Since he brought up 100 games three years ago, Bellchambers, 24, has played in three grand finals and become one of the competition’s most feared onballers.

“The last 50 games has been pretty exciting – not losing three grand finals – but being able to play consistently good footy for the past three years has been really enjoyable,” he said.

Bellchambers is thriving among the Bombers’ back six.

“We’ve got a lot of midfielders at the moment so they’ve thrown me down back and I’m really enjoying it,” he said.

“I’ve played down back quite a bit over the years. You can see the whole game and I like it.”

Lauderdale has had a roller-coaster start to the coronavirus season.

“It’s not the best start we’ve had but team morale is still high,” Bellchambers said.

“We’ve been getting better every week so hopefully we can keep getting better and get back on the winner’s list.”

Lauderdale stumbled against its grand final nemesis North Launceston.

“There’s a couple of things we can improve on _ our finishing off and forward entries are pretty average at the moment,” Bellchambers said.

“It’s those finishing touches we need to fix to get back to where we need to be.”

The Tigers will be dangerous at the Twin Ovals for his milestone match.

“It’s a beautiful ground and it will suit us pretty well,” Bellchambers said.

“We like the bigger grounds.

“We are definitely worried about them [Tigers] because they’ve got some great players like Kieran Lovell and Will Campbell, we are going to have to be at our best to beat them, especially in the wet.”
