RUCKMEN made an impression early on the umpires as they voted for the 2020 Alastair Lynch Medal with Lauderdale bigman Haydn Smith polling three votes for best-afield in the Bombers’ round two win over Glenorchy at Lauderdale Oval.

The Mercury will exclusively reveal the first 11 rounds for the premier individual award for the state’s premier football competition before the winner is announced on Friday, October 16.

Following best-on-ground votes for Launceston ruckman Hamish Leedham in the Blues’ round one win over Glenorchy at KGV, Smith caught the umpires’ eye with his effort of 21 disposals, two marks, four clearances, seven inside 50s, and a dominant 38 hit-outs against the Pies.

Glenorchy vice-captain Josh Arnold was awarded two votes for his work in the Magpies defence and Lauderdale co-captain Bryce Walsh received one.

At the Twin Ovals, it was a thriller between the Tigers and North Hobart. It saw the Demons win by 10 points and onballer Jayden Charlton receive maximum votes from the umpires ahead of Tiger Kieran Lovell and North ruckman Hamish Allan _ none of whom were mentioned in either teams’ best players.

Launceston beat North Launceston by 19 points at Windsor Park and the umpires gave Blues midfielder Michael Musicka three votes and teammate Jobi Harper hit the board for the first time with two, and Bomber’s teenage forward Jackson Callow one.
