CORONAVIRUS turned the football world upside down but some things stayed the same – North Launceston finished on top of the TSL ladder and its captain Brad Cox-Goodyer is still a midfield machine.
But the prize for most outstanding game in the final round of the home-and-away series goes to Lauderdale’s towering all-rounder Sam Siggins.
Big “Sigs” rucked all day, and aside from winning 20 hit outs in Lauderdale’s three-point thriller over the Tigers are Lauderdale Oval, his stats made most onballers green with envy.
ALL THE TSL STATS:
Apart from his primary duties to get the Sherrin to his ball-movers, Siggins had 27 disposals, 15 contested possessions, five inside 50s, five tackles and 13 clearances for a Star Tracker player rating of 154.
The only player to top that in the final round was Cox-Goodyer, who came back from a rest last weekend to lead the Northern Bombers to an 88-point win over Glenorchy with a 31-possession game that included 17 contested touches and a player rating of 158.
He had good company in the midfield, with Josh Ponting (31 possessions, player rating 136) and coach Taylor Whitford (25 possessions, two goals, player rating 129) owning the footy.
The sole Glenorchy player to hit a three-figure rating was centre half-back Daniel Joseph (21 possessions, nine marks) with 100.
Despite an “annus horribilis”, Glenorchy coach Paul Kennedy has already set his mind to next season.
“Really keen for next year,” Kennedy said.
“The positive thing over the past month is the players had a real focus on what we can do to make sure we’ve learned the lessons this year and be better next year.
“And not just relying on the fact that we will have a lot of injured players back but they are really driven to make sure we improve in a lot of different areas so we are right back up where we usually are next year.”
Courageous Sam Banks led Clarence to a thrilling 11-point win over a hard-charging North Hobart at Richmond Oval with a game-high 24 possessions (rating 92), and Demons defender Sam Collins (20 possessions, 10 marks, eight rebound 50s, rating 130) was brilliant for the boys in red and blue.
