MONA has secured a $240,000 State Government tender to design the public spaces at Macquarie Point.
Last month the Sunday Tasmanian revealed the Macquarie Point Development Corporation had signed a deal with Mona’s creative team to provide a concept for the site’s public spaces.
Details of the contract published on the Government’s tenders website show the contract was for “provision of creative designs for the activation of specified areas of the public realm at Macquarie Point”.
It was finalised on December 11 was awarded without being advertised.
Under a Treasurer’s instruction, some contracts can be exempted from being advertised if they are for a one-off service, such as an artwork.
The details of the tender for Mona’s work on the public spaces come as EOIs open for potential developers.
From today developers can access a “data room” that will lay out the technical information about the site’s development potential.
EOIs close on March 23 with developers to be short-listed in early May.
Meanwhile, details of Mona’s plans for redeveloping the Berriedale caravan park site were unveiled at an information session last night.

Mona owner David Walsh intends to lease the site from Glenorchy City Council, which has endorsed his plans and will advertise for public comment before the project undergoes a formal development approval process.
