A company founded by a “prominent player in the Philippine tourism industry” has lodged plans to build a 24-storey hotel and residential tower in Broadbeach.
The Cebu-based Manny O Group wants to build ‘The Legacy M’ on a 508sq m site on the corner of Surf Parade and Margaret Avenue, just a short distance from Broadbeach State School.
It will have 36 hotel rooms and six permanent residential apartments which will be penthouses on the top levels.
The Legacy M will have restaurant and retail offerings on its ground level and will replace a 1960s-era low-rise building.
The company is headed by Manuel H Osmena, who bought the site in 2020 for $2m. The wealthy businessman’s website bills the company as being in “the airport and airline services, wine, and hotel business” and owns the Ibiza Beach Club and the five-star Mövenpick Hotel, both based on the island of Mactan.
The latter was previously operated by Hilton.
Graham Baker, the real estate agent who sold the site in April 2020, previously said Mr Osmena fell in love with Broadbeach after visiting the area for a holiday.
Mr Osmena also operates airline catering company SkyKitchen Philippines and his own wine company – Manny O. Wines
Mr Osmena has been contacted for comment.
