A showpiece rooftop bar in one of the Gold Coast’s biggest shopping centres has been finished, with complex bosses now on the hunt for an operator.
The 195sq m venue is on the Nerang St side of Australia Fair and overlooks Southport’s former mall area.
It is the latest piece of the 41-year-old centre’s $50m upgrade.
The space boasts 85sq m of outdoor alfresco dining, as well as a kitchen.
Centre operators have launched expressions of interest for the site, hoping to attract a restaurant, cafe or bar.
Retail First Leasing’s Twaanie Canie said it offered potential tenants several options.
“We are seeking an experienced operator in the food and beverage industry for this unique space,” she said.
“The large internal area with undercover alfresco is ideal for creating a memorable dining experience — suitable uses would include restaurant, cafe or cafe bar.”
Plans for the bar were first unveiled in early 2022 when Australia Fair’s owner, YFG Shopping Centres, filed plans with Gold Coast City Council.
Australia Fair, originally known as Scarborough Fair Shopping World, was unveiled in 1981 by developer Pat Zarro’s Witan Group and his partners Australia Fixed Trusts.
In 1988 a massive $300 million expansion of the centre was announced along with a rebranding to create the modern Australia Fair complex, which opened in 1990.
