Some of the world’s most powerful fighter jets will headline an all-star line-up of military machinery at August’s Pacific Airshow in Surfers Paradise.
US-operated F-22 Raptors will be brought in from Hawaii to perform manoeuvres over the Surfers Paradise beach at the second annual three-day event, from August 16-18.
The planes are from the Pearl Harbour-based 19th Fighter Squadron.
Event boss Kevin Elliott said the airshow would have a “strong emphasis on fast jets and parachute teams”.
“We are excited to announce the F-22 Raptor is making its Pacific Airshow Gold Coast debut with not one but two of these incredible machines,” he said
“The stealthy F-22 Raptor is one of the most powerful, manoeuvrable and all-round badass fifth generation fighters ever created and you’ll get to see them make a rare appearance over the beaches of Surfers Paradise.
“This will be one you do not want to miss.”
The US is also providing a United States Navy P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol and reconnaissance jet.
“The US military is really warming to the Gold Coast, so it’s also sending a lethal P-8 Poseidon, the latest generation sub hunter, putting fear into the heart of many a submariner,” Mr Elliott said.
Other key aircraft include the Royal Australian Air Force’s F/A-18F Super Hornet, the British-made World War II-era Spitfire, an A-37 Dragonfly and an RAAF C-17 or C-27 Aircraft.
Mr Elliott said parachuting and aerial performance may also feature, including a display by the Royal Air Force Falcons Parachute Display Team, based at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire and the Australian Defence Force Red Berets Parachute Display Team.
“Travelling all the way from the UK, this elite team will demonstrate their exceptional parachuting skills, delivering a spectacular display of precision and bravery with their famous and unique formation skydiving,” he said.
“We are honoured to welcome our friends from the UK and happy to note the world is taking notice and getting involved with the Pacific Airshow brand.
“The Falcons, alongside the ADF Red Berets and the US Navy SEAL Leap Frogs, showcase a remarkable trio of military precision and co-operation.
“It’s truly inspiring to see these top-tier teams come together and perform on the Gold Coast.”
