Regional NSW 'crying out' for housing investment

A multimillion-dollar housing development promises to bring golfing fans closer than ever to the action.

Designs have been unveiled for new luxury homes overlooking a popular “championship-designed” golf course and popular country club at $5m luxury housing development ‘The Fairway’ revealed for Tura Beach on the NSW far south coast.

Located on The Fairway, north of Merimbula, the $4.8 million project abuts the nearby Tura Beach Country Club, which features an 18-hole fairway designed by golfing champion Peter Thompson, “two of the region’s best” bowling greens, a bistro, and tennis courts.

Comprising 15 units, including four three-bedroom duplexes, the development application from owner Le Mottee Group has been submitted to Bega Valley Shire Council.

Documents say the project “makes logical and sensible use of the site”, as well as causing of minimal environmental impact.

“The proposed development is located on a hillside overlooking the oceanfront and captures ocean views,” the documents state.

“Located within a residential estate adjacent to the Tura Beach Country Club and golf course, the dwellings are in keeping with the existing contemporary character of the immediate area.

“They will respond to the local setting through modern coastal style architecture and high-quality finishes.

“Each unit shall have a mixed material facade, utilising weatherboard, cement render, brickwork, and concrete block construction, including glazing and columns.”

In addition to the four duplexes, the project will also include seven three-bedroom detached units which, over two levels, will feature open plan kitchen, living, and dining areas, a master bedroom with walk-in robe and ensuite, and double lockup garages.

Similar amenities are planned for the duplexes, with a further three visitor parking spaces also provided.

The project comes amid renewed interest in the far south coast region, and Merimbula in particular.

Earlier this year, plans were submitted to the council for a controversial $27 million shop-top housing project in the town CBD.

In September, developer Smart Home Creations submitted plans for a new, 59-dwelling townhouse and apartment complex.

Meanwhile, the Tura Beach area is also abutted by numerous so-called “zombie developments,”

A recently released council report lists two of the long-stagnated projects nearby: an 185 lot subdivision in Mirador and a two lot subdivision at Kangaroo Run in North Tura Beach. Work has not begun on either projects, according to council staff.
