Young Territorians are being given the opportunity to blossom as leaders with applications now open to become a youth ambassador for 2024.

High school student CJ Rankin said becoming a youth ambassador in 2023 had allowed her to meet important people, make new friends and create a difference for young people in her community.

“I wanted to inspire young Aboriginal people to make positive change in their communities, to show we have the capability to lead and inspire change and be proud of our ancestors at the same time,” CJ said.

She encouraged others to apply before the deadline of October 10.

The position is open for young people aged 15 to 25, and will allow them to develop their leadership skills, and share their perspectives on issues facing young Territorians.

Successful applicants will also be able to choose the theme, lead the organisation of and promote NT Youth Week for 2024.

Every April NT Youth week hosts more than 300 events across the Territory, giving young people a platform to have their voices heard, raise concerns, express ideas, act on issues and celebrate their achievements.

Youth Minister Lauren Moss said the ambassador program provided young people with critical life skills and develop as leaders.

“We are supporting the next generation of Territory leaders, providing safe spaces to enjoy activities, make new friends and show peers and the whole community what is possible,” Ms Moss said.

“The NT Youth Week Ambassador program highlights the positive contribution that young Territorians can and do make to our communities.”

Last year seven young Territorians represented communities from the Top End, Central Australia, Barkly and East Arnhem regions.
