Young people across the Territory are gearing up to celebrate NT Youth Week 2023 with almost 300 activities set to take place in Darwin, Palmerston, East Arnhem, Katherine, Barkly and Alice Springs across the Easter school holidays.

Events are free and there will be something on offer for all – from dance, make-up or DJ workshops to disco nights, roller skating and Easter egg hunts.

Alongside the fun and social options, there are also leadership programs, wellbeing workshops, and things like the Couch Surfing event, honouring the resilience of young people affected by homelessness.

NT Youth Week is the Territory’s largest annual celebration of young people aged 12 to 25, and is billed as an opportunity to come together, have fun, learn and enjoy a range of entertainment and activities.

Youth Week ambassador Taylah Mills, 19, said it was important to see more events designed by young people, for young people.

She hoped the celebration would help change perspectives on young Territorians.

“There’s so much good, but everyone chooses to focus on the negative,” she said.

“I’m hoping these events give people a reason to get out of bed and do something important each day.”

Youth Minister Lauren Moss welcomed this year’s theme of Break Free, Unleash Your Story.

“It’s a call to action to inspire and empower Territory youth to get involved in their community and have their say on important topics that impact young Territorians,” she said.

“Whether it’s attending a fun event or learning something new in a workshop to participating in the youth conferences, forums and Awards, NT Youth Week is really about young people coming together and celebrating.”

Youth Week ambassadors include Armani Francois, Jordy Humphreys, Shanae Kuo, CJ Rankin, Sophie Bedggood and Amber Plumb.

NT Youth Week runs April 6 to 16.
