Donald Trump says he will sign off on a flurry of executive orders on day one of his new administration, starting with a crackdown on an “invasion” of immigrants. Follow live updates.
US President-elect Donald Trump vowed a blitz of emergency actions at a huge victory rally on the eve of his inauguration, starting with a crackdown on an “invasion” of immigrants at the border with Mexico.
“Starting tomorrow, I will act with historic speed and strength and fix every single crisis facing our country,” Mr Trump told a cheering crowd at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC, the day before he is sworn in for a second term.
Mr Trump was joined on stage by billionaire tech tycoon Elon Musk, who vowed to do “great things” and make America strong “for centuries.”
“We’re going to stop the invasion of our borders,” said Mr Trump, who also lashed out at the “failed administration” of outgoing US President Joe Biden.
It came as the President-elect triumphantly returned to the US capital to kick off his inauguration party as he plotted to save TikTok and undo Joe Biden’s policies before visiting wildfire-ravaged Los Angeles as America’s 47th president.
TikTok has restored service in the US after briefly going dark, as a law banning the app on national security grounds came into effect.
TikTok thanked Mr Trump, who said he would delay the ban for 90 days after taking office, for making the reversal possible – though the outgoing administration of President Joe Biden had earlier said that it would not enforce any ban.
