Melania Trump says her husband is ‘not Hitler’, country ready for American dream to return

The former first lady has defended her husband in a rare TV interview, just days after he was controversially compared to Hitler.

Melania Trump ripped the “terrible” Democrat-led attacks suggesting her husband is a second Hitler

Former first lady Melania Trump has slammed the “terrible” Democrat-led attacks against her husband Donald Trump, who was described as the second Hitler.

“It’s terrible,” Ms Trump, 54, said of the recent rhetoric during a sit-down with the Fox News show Fox & Friends.

“He’s not Hitler. All of his supporters, they’re standing behind him because they want to see country (sic) successful and we see what kind of support he has.”

“He loves his country and he wants to make it successful … for all of the people. You know, he loves people and he wants to make this country great again,” she added.

Ms Trump’s comments come just days after Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz was widely slammed for comparing Mr Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally to a notorious pro-Nazi event held in the arena’s predecessor site 85 years ago.

“Donald Trump’s got this big rally going at Madison Square Garden,” Mr Walz said.

“There’s a direct parallel to a big rally that happened in the 1930s at Madison Square Garden.”

Vice President Kamala Harris said she believes Mr Trump is “a fascist” during a CNN town hall last week.

However, at a Monday rally Mr Trump pushed back against the label.

“You know, years ago, my father — I had a great father, tough guy — he used to always say, ‘Never use the word Nazi. Never use that word.’ And he’d say, ‘Never use the word Hitler. Don’t use that word,’” he said.

The reactions came after Mr Trump’s former White House chief of staff John Kelly was quoted by The Atlantic earlier this month saying the former president had spoken positively about “Hitler’s generals” and had shown disdain for US military service members while in the White House.

“(Trump) certainly falls into the general definition of fascist, for sure,” he said.

Mr Trump spoke at a roundtable discussion with voters in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, just west of Philadelphia, on Tuesday.

He has sought to paint his campaign as one that is bringing people “hope”.

In an attack on Ms Harris and the Democrats, he said the country is “being destroyed by incompetent fools”, adding, “We’re not going to let it happen”.

At the same time Ms Harris delivered her “closing argument” to US voters at a rally on the National Mall in Washington, DC.
