Police have issued an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) following a serious truck rollover along the Flinders Highway at Pentland, west of Charters Towers.

The declaration, made shortly before 9am, has created an exclusion zone stretching two kilometres around the crash site near Warrigal Creek.

Its understood the incident involved a large fuel tanker tipping onto its side, though no other vehicles were involved.

Authorities are urging motorists and the public to avoid the area while emergency services work to secure the scene.

Motorists travelling along the Flinders Highway are encouraged to seek alternative routes and follow directions from authorities to ensure safety.
