Shock video has emerged of two youth offenders who scaled the outside of an upmarket Townsville complex apartment block before breaking into a unit to steal keys and escape in a car.
News Corp was supplied footage of two of the offenders during the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The break-in at the Abode on Morehead Street apartment complex opposite Dean Park occurs about the same time as thehigh-profile home invasion in Putter St, Mount Louisa but is not believed related.
A resident said the thieves had gained entry to the complex and unsuccessfully attempted to gain entry to an apartment on the first floor.
The resident said the robbers then successfully gained entry to a second-level unit, stealing the keys to a blue 2021 Toyota Corolla hatchback.
They said it was believed that the offenders had gained access to the apartment by scaling the outside of the building.
They said the car was eventually recovered behind Metro Quays Apartments in Ogden Street, Townsville City on Monday.
Queensland Police Service confirmed details about the incident, including the successful recovery of the vehicle.
No arrests have been made.
A request has been made for the latest rates of car thefts in Townsville.
Townsville MP Adam Baillie blamed Labor’s crime laws that “allowed these young thugs to run riot” through communities in Queensland, including Townsville, “with zero consequences”.
“The Crisafulli Government is focused on locking-up these criminals before they get into people’s homes,” he said.
“We have introduced the toughest laws in the country through Adult Crime, Adult Time (ACAT) and I am looking forward to voting on passing additional ACAT offences into law, when Parliament sits in Brisbane next week.”
Mr Ballie said he would continue to advocate for stronger laws and more police resources on the ground to make Townsville safer and to ensure those responsible are held to account before the courts.
In addition to the Mount Louisa, Townsville was hit by the alleged armed robbery of an Ampol Service Station in Palmerston Street in Pimlico in broad daylight on Tuesday morning.
QPS says three people have been arrested in relation to the incident.
