Glenorchy City Council launches Activity City online local business directory
$1.6 million would be injected into the local economy if Glenorchy residents spent just 1 per cent more on their normal shop, says the council as it launches a new online directory.

IF you can’t make it to Northgate Shopping Centre, the Moonah retail strip or Claremont Plaza, a new online directory is a one-stop shop for all things in and around Glenorchy.

Launched this month, the Glenorchy City Council’s Activity City website was created to support the municipality’s local businesses in the wake of shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Glenorchy Mayor Kristie Johnston said the local community was a proud one, and people across the city were keen to support one another in tough times.

“We recognise there are a lot of members of our community who want to be able to shop locally, but just don’t know what’s on offer at the moment,” she said.
“If you’re at home and you feel like a bit of treat, it’s great for your mental health to hop online and indulge in some retail therapy and support a local business, which are local families in the end.
“If everyone just spent one per cent more than their usual spend, we would actually be injecting $1.6 million into our local economy, and now is the time we really need that economic stimulus.”
