Hotel Bruny one of several Tasmanian businesses reopening for dine-in restaurant meals

A NUMBER of Tasmanian restaurants and cafes have started to announce they will be offering dine-in services including one family-run business which has several nights already booked out.

With COVID-19 restrictions relaxing to allow up to 10 people to dine-in at hospitality venues, local businesses are considering if this physically and financially worthwhile.

Hotel Bruny has been closed for eight weeks, but have announced they will re-open the restaurant doors today and will trade seven days a week.

Owner Dave Gunton said the restaurant would be able to offer Bruny produce including oysters, wallaby lasagne and black lipped mussels.

He said the support of the local community had already been overwhelming.

“We’re already fully booked for a number of nights next week – 10 people at a time – with one local family booking in for a surprise birthday party for their daughter’s 10th birthday,” he said.

“The revised menu will feature many of our old favourites, with a strong focus on locally sourced produce together with daily specials including such delicacies as the “Rona Burger” and the “Isolator” – a triple roasted garlic and cheese calzone.

“One bite of this one and you’ll need to give the person next to you at least 1.5 metres.”

LIST OF RESTAURANTS OPENING TO PATRONS AGAIN:

  • Shipwrights Arms, Battery Point is open for dine in again for up to 10 people per room. The pub is open from 3pm-9pm.
  • Prospect House Private Hotel in Richmond is offering in-home, gourmet dining experiences. Call ahead for more details.
  • The Beach Cafe Restaurant Bar in Blackmans Bay is reopening May 21. Call ahead for more details.
  • Fern Tree Tavern is open for dine-in but has varied brunch, lunch and dinner hours – check before heading up.
  • Gastown East, Bellerive is open again for takeaway options.
  • The Coffee Club, North Gate is doing dine-in but takeaway options are encouraged.
  • Three Little Ducks, Bellerive is doing dine-in breakfast and lunch, with one hour seatings – and temperature checks available.
  • Yang’s Dumpling on Elizabeth St is open for dine-in and takeaway, Monday-Saturday, 11am-2pm and 4pm-7pm.
  • The Duke Hotel on Macquarie St is open for takeaway, delivery and dine-in (bookings essential). Dinner service Monday-Saturday, 5-9pm and lunch Friday, 12-2pm or by appointment.
  • Mr Good Guy on Macquarie St, which specialises in Southeast Asian food with a modern twist, is open every night between 5pm-9pm for 10 diners and takeaway.
  • Gastown East in Bellerive is reopening on Tuesday.
  • Tacos Mexican Restaurant in Morrison St will offer dine-in.
  • Grinners Dive Bar on Elizabeth St will be open for dine-in.
  • She’s Cooked Cafe in Lauderdale is available for dine-in.
  • Sush Track on Franklin Wharf will offer dine-in.
  • Sapa Rose on Harrington St will offer dine-in.
  • Dandy Lane on Collins St will offer dine in.
  • Time Out Cafe in Glenorchy Plaza, Glenorchy has reopened.
  • Hejo’s Chinese Restaurant in Elizabeth St will open for diners this week.
  • Mures Lower Deck on Franklin Wharf, including the bistro, fishmongers and cafe will be open 8am-7pm every day, Pearl + CO will be open for lunch and dinner.
  • Mures Fishing in Cambridge will be open from 10am-3pm Monday to Friday, and 10pm-2pm Saturdays.
  • Smolt Kitchen, West Hobart is open for dine-in from Tuesday.
  • Jackman & McRoss, Lenah Valley is open for dine-in.
  • Providence Cafe, North Hobart is open for dine-in.
  • Driftwood Restaurant, Lauderdale is reopening on June 2. Usual trading hours, bookings essential.
  • Amigos Mexican Restaurant, Elizabeth St, Hobart is open from Tuesday night, 5pm-7pm and 7.15pm until late. Bookings essential.
  • Asian Gourmet On The Pier, Elizabeth St Pier, Hobart, is open from today for lunch and dinner seatings available.
  • Salamanca Wharf Cafe, Hobart is open again, seven days from 7am until 2pm.
  • Red Pot Restaurant, Sandy Bay Rd, Sandy Bay is open for dine-in again, with lunch and dinner seatings, seven days.
  • Customs House Hotel, Hobart is open for dine in customers Monday to Saturday. They have seatings from lunchtime until late. Bookings essential.
  • Ball & Chain Grill, Hobart is open again for dine-in, as well as takeaway and heat at home meals. Bookings essential for lunch and dinner seatings. Call for more details.
  • Rockwall Bar and Grill, Salamanca Place, Hobart, is open for dine-in from May 20. Bookings essential, call for more details.
  • Doctor Syntax Hotel, Sandy Bay, is reopen for lunch with three 1.5hr seatings at 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm. Bookings appreciated. Takeaways for dinner will continue.
  • Coal River Farm, Cambridge is open for High Cheese from 10am-4pm and cheese and chocolate plates – and a full bar.
