TWO women have been charged after allegedly assaulting two Woolworths staff members in Launceston in an alleged aggravated robbery last night.

Inspector Craig Fox of Launceston CIB said the women attempted to exit the supermarket on Wellington St with two baskets of groceries they had not paid for.

“When attempting to leave the store with the stolen goods, the offenders assaulted

two staff members,” he said.

“The staff members received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.”

A police investigation following the incident identified the two alleged offenders involved.

Both women were arrested by police a short time later at a house in Invermay.

An 18-year-old woman from Invermay, and a 17-year-old woman from West Launceston were both charged with aggravated robbery.

They were both bailed and will appear before the Court at a later date.
