A DISQUALIFIED driver who allegedly caused a crash in Launceston on Tuesday night while driving with more than seven times the legal blood alcohol limit will stay in jail until her next court appearance.

Renita Anne Bingley, 47, allegedly crashed her gold BMW X5 into the side of a Mazda hatch at the intersection of St John and Frankland streets about 7.20pm.

Police attended and arrested Ms Bingley at the scene for allegedly driving while disqualified.

Sergeant David Gammon said she was taken to Launceston Police Station where she submitted to a breath analysis, which returned a reading of 0.354.

No serious injuries were sustained as a result of the crash.

Ms Bingley was charged with driving disqualified, driving without a license, driving while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor “to the extent [she was] incapable of having proper control of the vehicle”.

She was also charged with breaching bail and conditions of a notice set on June 24 when she appeared in court facing family violence charges.

She was detained until she appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Magistrate Sharon Cure said she had recently given Ms Bingley bail and called the alleged alcohol reading “tragic”.

The matters were adjourned without plea and Ms Bingley was remanded to appear on August 7.

No application was made for bail.
