BMW driver involved in Launceston crash allegedly returned extremely high alcohol reading

A 47-year-old woman was arrested at the scene of a crash in Launceston on Tuesday night. She was taken to the police station where she allegedly blew an extremely high reading.

A LAUNCESTON woman was allegedly driving disqualified and with more than seven times the legal blood alcohol content when she crashed her gold BMW X5 into a Mazda hatch.

Sergeant David Gammon said police attended a crash at the intersection of St John and Frankland streets about 7.20pm on Tuesday night and arrested the 47-year-old at the scene.

“She was transported to the Launceston Police station where she submitted to a breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.354,” he said.

“She was charged with several offences and detained to appear before the Launceston Court [Wednesday] morning.”

The woman was charged with driving while disqualified and under the influence of alcohol.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the crash.
