After coming to life in 2024 by revealing their team mascot and playing colours at an official club launch, the fledgling Tasmania Devils will tap the collective wisdom of their 205,000 members for advice on a new club song.
Devils executive director, Kath McCann, said the club’s second ‘Put Your Say Into Play’ survey, which launches on Monday, would directly shape the work of Tasmania FC staff over the coming 12 months.
And high on the agenda is a theme song that will play a crucial role in building the identity of the AFL’s 19th side.
Ms McCann said with Devils already being bombarded with musical suggestions, it was vital to establish a process that gave every fan the chance to have their say.
“We are regularly receiving unsolicited input, probably two to three songs a week, from all over the world that want to be a part of this” Ms McCann said.
“We’ve had songs sent in from really young children, through to those nearing the century mark.
“The song is going to be such an important part of our club, representing what the Tasmania Devils are all about.
“So we thought it would be a really great idea to ask our members what process they would like to see for the development of our club song.
“Because we want to make sure that we can start all practising those lyrics and getting that song firing well ahead of our first game.”
Ms McCann said that because last year’s community survey took place before the official Tasmania FC launch, this was the first time the club would hear the views of its own membership base.
The club was committed to engaging in an ongoing dialogue with members, and have them steer the direction of what is a proudly community-based organisation, Ms McCann said.
“We have now got 205,000 members, and this survey is their opportunity to provide input on the next stage of the journey – setting up the operational phases of the club, which is terribly exciting,” she said.
“We want to give all of our members and the broader community the confidence to know that when we seek input, it’s a genuine review and not just in the marketing exercise.
“So if you want to have your say, here’s your opportunity.”
Devils members who have opted in to be contacted for research will have a unique survey link emailed to them, while other members can email the club to have their preferences changed.
The survey will close on Sunday, 8th December at 11:59pm.
