CONTRACTORS have started work on an $8 million pedestrian bridge linking the Queens Domain to Hobart’s Cenotaph.
The federally funded walkway will span more than 200m across the Tasman Highway.
The bridge is expected to be completed by the end of next year. Franklin MP Nic Street said it would ensure a safer crossing of one of the state’s busiest intersections.

“Importantly, the bridge will draw attention to the Soldiers Memorial Avenue, as well as the Cenotaph, and will help reunite the Queens Domain to the water,” he said.
The Hobart community voted to name the bridge after veterans service group Legacy.

Online voting for the name saw Legacy Link preferred over the Bridge of Remembrance and the Peace Bridge, with the State Government’s Nomenclature Board to now consider the title.
Voting for the bridge’s name stirred up debate, with other veterans service groups arguing it would be unfair to name the bridge after one organisation.
