Cascade has introduced a new premium lager to the market — Cascade Origins — and it comes with a hefty price tag.

A carton of Origins is expected to set punters back $96, while a six pack’s recommended retail price is $30.

Cascade Brewery’s head of manufacturing Brendan Flanagan said the cost was in recognition of the quality of the ingredients and to position the product in the premium market.

He said the launch of the brew made with 100 per cent Tasmanian ingredients including crisp mountain water fresh from kunanyi was “huge” for Australia’s oldest continually operating brewery.

“Cascade Origin celebrates the crisp water of Hobart’s kunyani / Mt Wellington, the finest Tasmanian ingredients and a commitment to quality,” Mr Flanagan said.

It is the first major beer to be launched interstate for Cascade in more than a decade.

The uniquely Tasmanian beer is a toast to the company’s endurance and quality with Cascade celebrating its 200th birthday earlier this year.

Cascade Origins is made exclusively with Tasmanian ingredients, and the packaging incorporates two Tasmanian icons: the silhouette of Mount Wellington and Thylacine stripes.

Cascade Brewery brewing manager Patrick Setford said the biggest thing about the new beer was the “provenance claim”.

The hops are from Bushy Park, and the Barley is all grown and malted in Tasmania as well, he said.

“It’s all Tasmanian raw materials,” Mr Setford said.

He said they had a process in place to ensure all water used while making Cascade Origins is straight mountain water, which was important for the quality.

Mr Setford said Cascade Origins was a “very clean lager” with a fantastic taste similar to a European lager, with Mr Flanagan adding it was a bright and golden lager with a light citrus hop aroma.

Cascade Origin is available now for order and will be available at selected venues in Sydney and in cases or six packs at Liquorland, Vintage Cellars and First Choice Liquor across NSW and Victoria.

It is also available at selected venues in Hobart and Tasmanian bottle shops.
