At most comedy shows, the stand-up performs their routine, hopes to get a few laughs, and then walks off stage.

However, for his show in Tasmania, David Walliams — who is best known for his work on the television show Little Britain — a large part of it will feature a Q&A with the audience.

Performing across the Australia’s east coast before a penultimate stop at the Wrest Point Casino on October 8 before going west to Perth, Walliams told The Mercury that Tasmanian audiences should expect “a big production”.

“It’s a look back at my career, the things people know me for, the inspiration for Little Britain characters, Come Fly With Me, my books, Britain’s Got Talent – all kinds of things like that,” Walliams said.

“But also, there’s a chance for the audience to ask me absolutely anything they want as well.”

Walliams said he was looking forward to that part of the show the most.

“It will be nothing but spontaneous, and they’re always the bits the audience tends to like the most.

“It’s just really fun to see someone think on their feet and know that something happened on the night you went to the show that didn’t happen on any other night.”

Walliams’ show in Hobart will also mark the first time he has been to Tasmania.

“Everyone says it’s very beautiful, and they say it’s a darkly stunning place. I don’t know too much what to expect.

“But it looks really astonishingly beautiful, and it seems very healthy there in terms of all the wildlife and countryside.”

Proudly lowbrow was how Walliams described the type of humour that would be featured during his Australian stand-up shows.

“It’s going to be quite naughty, it’s going to be quite silly, and I don’t take myself seriously.

“What I really want is people to go on a high, having just had a great night out; that’s what I want it to be.

“I’m not going to get all intellectual and artsy farty; I’m going to get all sort of self-regarding. I’m not going to try and make you cry; I’m going to try and make you laugh.”
