The Wolfe Brothers have taken the top gong from Australia’s premier country music awards on Saturday night.

The Tasmanian kings of country music won three Golden Guitars from the Country Music Awards of Australia in Tamworth, including Album of the Year for Livin’ the Dream.

The Wolfe Brothers – which comprises brothers Tom and Nick Wolfe – also took home a Golden Guitar for Group or Duo of the Year and Vocal Collaboration of the Year alongside Travis Collins for song Runnin’ The Country.

Livin’ the Dream was written over Zoom writing sessions with writers around the world during the pandemic.

But before the album’s release, the brothers suddenly lost their beloved mum, Lee.

Paying tribute to both the parents in their acceptance speech, the brothers said winning Album of the Year was “unbelievable”.

“This week has been an incredible week for us. We got inducted into the Galaxy of Stars, but its been an amazing week because we were reminiscing of our first time coming to Tamworth. We first drove up with mum and dad, and mum and dad aren’t here unfortunately,” Tom said.

Nick added: “Mum and dad would have absolutely just been over the moon to see. We know they are watching over us.”

Tom said they were surprised to win such a strong category.

“This year, all of the nominations, group and album, the quality of Australia country music right now is the best we’ve felt since we’ve been in this genre,” he said.

“It’s diverse, it’s authentic, people are selling a lot of tickets, people are doing a lot of great things for this industry. Nick and I are incredibly proud to be a part of it.”

Despite consistently being nominated for a Golden Guitars, it has been five years since the band had won. They have won a total of nine Golden Guitars.

The Brothers’ sixth studio album Livin’ the Dream was also up for Best Country Album at the 2023 ARIAs.

The Wolfe Brothers have a performance with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in Hobart and Launceston in April.
