LOCAL models will take to the runway on Saturday dressed head-to-toe in local designs for the second Tasmanian Fashion Festival.
Taking place at Princess Wharf No. 1, the festival will showcase the newest looks and collections of emerging and established Tasmanian designers in a celebration of locally designed and produced clothing.
Hobart designer Celyna Ziolkowski is bringing her theatrical background to the festival with a more “dramatic” 15 piece collection.
“The gowns that I design are evening and bridal wear specifically but they’ve got a little bit more of a theatrical flair to them because of my showbiz wardrobe background,” she said.
“They’re couture so they’re made to measure, they’re not your run of the mill, off the rack pieces.”
Model and clinical neuropsychologist, Caitlin Watson has only been modelling for four months but said with a lifelong love of fashion she is ecstatic to be a part of this year’s festival.
“I’ve always loved fashion and it’s just so great to see Tasmania growing within the Australian fashion industry, I’m so excited,” she said.
Model Katarina Bierling will be walking the runway alongside Ms Watson, modelling Lalita Lowe’s ‘Farm to Fibre to Fashion’ line made from locally sourced wool as the collection makes it’s debut.
President of the festival Tanya Ellis said she hopes the festival continues to grow in popularity and reach.
“Before the Tasmanian Fashion Festival, we were the only state in Australia to not have a fashion festival or week, so I worked with 12 other industry festivals to bring one to Tasmania. ” she said.
“For the festival to become a main event on the Australian calendar would be an ultimate goal.”
