THE future of education for Tasmania’s next generation is at the forefront of parents, with hopes their children have the same opportunities as they would on the mainland.

After Jessica Farmers picked up her life and moved to Tasmania from the middle of Western Australia with her partner for 12 months, they decided to stay after they fell in love with the Tasmanian lifestyle.

They dream that their children’s education will be bright.

“I just like to hope that they have lots of opportunities. If they decide to go to University, a bigger range of options in Tasmania,” Mrs Farmers said.

“I do feel at the moment that if they don’t want to be limited they do need to sometimes consider moving away which obviously brings other challenges.”

Mr Farmer said it’s important the Tasmanian environment still held its attributes and value into the future for their children to enjoy.

“Looking forward, it’s obviously very important that they grow up in a place where the environment hasn’t been destroyed,” he said.

Being able to afford a home in the future and having easy access to health services for special needs were also important.

“Access to diagnostic services where there’s a 12-month waitlist for a public autism assessment or 18-months for ADHD it’s really hard to get into a paediatrician,” Mrs Farmer said.

For six-year-old bright-eyed daughter Adeline, she loves seeing all the friendly faces about Hobart, the cool Tasmanian weather, and being able to walk everywhere.
