Tasmanian Covid death toll rises to 79

Another Tasmanian has died after being confirmed to have Covid, this time a woman in her 90s.

Another Tasmanian has died after contracting Covid, increasing the state’s death toll to 79.

Health minister Jeremy Rockliff confirmed a woman in her 90s passed away in the state’s north in the latest reporting period.

It comes after a woman in her late sixties with Covid was confirmed on Saturday to have died in the state’s south.

There were 529 new Covid cases recorded overnight, with 4216 currently active.

There were 42 people in hospital with Covid, 18 being treated specifically for Covid and 22 being treated for unrelated conditions.

Overnight there were 590 people who recovered from Covid and were released from isolation.
