Tasmania’s Covid death toll has risen to 77 after a man in his 80s passed away in Tasmania’s North West.

There have been a new Covid death reported everyday for the last six days, with two reported on Wednesday.

In the latest reporting period 765 new cases were detected, with 4,474 cases currently active.

There are 42 people in hospital, 2o being treated specifically for Covid and 22 treated for unrelated conditions.

One person is in the ICU.

Health minister Jeremy Rockliff said Tasmanians needed to continue to behave in a Covid safe way.

“Practice good hand hygiene, follow social distancing, test when you have symptoms, stay home when you are unwell, and wear masks where required to do so,” he said.

“The most important thing you can continue to do to protect yourself, your family and the community is to roll up your sleeves and get vaccinated when you are due.”

Overnight there were 902 people who recovered from Covid and were released from isolation.
