THE Hobart Football Club’s independent investigation has recommended a range of suspensions for playing-coach Alex Gilmour and others over the Lakes Hotel incident – but the board is still yet to publicly act.
The Tigers’ board has had the findings of its independent investigation into the Lakes Hotel incident for a week.
The Mercury understands the independent review recommended a range of suspensions for the sole player, Aaron Kaye, three coaching staff — including current injured playing coach, former AFL draftee Gilmour — and one board member, Scott Quinn, who were involved in various degrees in a serious incident at the Lakes Hotel two weekends ago.
It is believed the Tigers board received the report late last week and then had a meeting last Tuesday night to discuss the recommendations.
The Mercury has attempted to contact Hobart president Josh Munting a number of times but has had no response.
The Mercury also contacted Gilmour, but he referred the matter onto Munting.
The player involved, Kaye, kicked a goal in the Tigers upset 10-point loss to Sorell last round but has not been named for Saturday’s away game against Huonville.
The incident took place after the SFL postponed games a fortnight ago due to the serious spine injury suffered by Cygnet forward Ryan Wiggins.
The club became involved after the group, while not on a sanctioned club trip, signed into the Lakes Hotel as “the Hobart Football Club.”
After some unsavoury alleged incidents with staff and locals, it is believed the group was asked to leave the hotel by staff.
Upon being asked to leave a fight broke out inside the hotel between the group and locals that escalated into the carpark. CCTV footage was captured of the brawl inside the venue, but there was no footage of the outside fracas.
Hotel management then contacted the Hobart Football Club seeking an investigation into the incident.
AFL Tasmania and the SFL are both aware of the incident, with AFL Tasmania continuing to monitor the situation.
It has the capacity to call in the AFL’s integrity commission to further investigate it if it is not satisfied with the club’s response.
