Sullivans Cove Distillery competing in five categories at the World Whisky Awards

Citing its “holistic approach” as the reason behind its success, a Tasmanian whisky producer is competing in five categories at the upcoming World Whisky Awards.

A Tasmanian distillery will be flying the flag for Australia at the World Whisky Awards.

At recent national judging, Sullivans Cove Distillery was awarded Australia’s best single malt single cask under 12 years old.

The Cambridge-based company was also awarded the Rest of the World Icon of Whisky awards for brand innovator of the year and sales team of the year.

Sullivans Cove Distillery’s staff also received individual awards, with Ally Bhana winning the brand ambassador of the year and Heather Tillott the distillery manager of the year.

The Icon of Whisky awards are split into four separate regions: Ireland, Scotland, America and Rest of the World. The company is now in the running for all five categories in the overall global awards, judged in London next month.

Ms Tillott said Sullivans Cove had a history of success.

“It’s not just recognising our liquid as being top-notch and some of the best in the world, but it’s recognising who we are and how we do what we do,” she said.

“There’s high-quality products coming out of Tasmania and there’s businesses that are being recognised on a global level as doing a great job.”

Ms Tillott said the secret behind Sullivans Cove Distillery’s success was its holistic approach.

“It’s not just liquid and product; it’s people, teams and how we do it.

“I think it is just caring about every single detail and, at the end of the day, caring for your people.”
