POPULAR East Coast attraction Devil’s Corner will begin a significant development later this month on its award-winning cellar door that will provide locals and travellers with more space and shelter to make it a year-round destination.
Renowned Tasmanian architects Cumulus Studios have returned for the project to ensure the aesthetic of the current site remains and to continue the site’s focus on being environmentally sustainable.
Cumulus Studio director Peter Walker said his team was extremely proud of the new project and look forward to continuing on from the environmentally conscious strategies put in place from the beginning.
“Cumulus are very excited to see the next stage of Devil’s Corner start construction,” Mr Walker said.
“It is highly satisfying as designers to see a place that we helped to create become so used and loved by visitors and locals alike.
“With increasing awareness of the role buildings play in our environment, we felt it was important to continue many of the environmentally sustainable practices that we initiated at the beginning of the project – from material selection to prefabrication techniques,” he said.
Devil’s Corner marketing manager Will Adkins said a key focus of the expansion was to offer the public a destination that could be accessed all year round.
“Calm autumns, wild winters or warm summers, we have no control over the weather. But with the new site expansion, we will be able to ensure visitors can experience the very best of Devil’s Corner no matter the season,” Mr Adkins said.
Key features of the expansion are a new tasting area and an underground cellar that will hold wine and food masterclasses along with private functions and events.
The site will have a temporary pop-up wine store during the expansion, which is expected to be completed in September.
