Severe weather warning in place statewide as state braces for wintry blast
A severe weather warning is in place across Tasmania as the state braces for strong winds, heavy rain, and low snow.

A STATEWIDE severe weather warning is in place, with west to south-westerly winds expected to average 60–70km/h and peak at 100km/h.
The gusty conditions will begin in the west late this morning and spread across the state from about midday.

Winds will ease before midnight but are expected to pick up tomorrow in southern and central areas. Temperatures will sit in the mid-teens, with Hobart to reach a top of 16C today.
The west will receive the most rain, with 10–20mm forecast, although up to 30mm is likely in elevated areas.
Snow levels will dip to 600–700m before rising to 1200m by tomorrow. Wintry conditions will persist into the weekend.

Senior forecaster Glen Perrin said those in the Point to Pinnacle on Sunday might face snow showers.
“It’s going to be fairly cold in the morning when they’re doing the run or walk,” he said.
A sheep graziers warning and bushwalkers weather alert have also been issued.
